Recommend a truck...

My tranny was replaced under warranty haven't had any problems since..I went 7.3 Tremor because I didn't trust the cp4 on the diesels..I showed them..

The CP4 can grenade a fuel system for sure, and they're a ton of money and time to replace. Still better than a motor though!

Last time I check $12-20k depending on make, GM, Ford and Dodge used them in them and how much the glitter travels..if you can't get the parts...Full motors are easier waaay easier to get. Most trucks you have to pull the Cab to any major work, except the Tundra..you have to pull the cab to replace the turbos on those.

Yep which is why i installed the bypass filter on mine. $400 of peace of mind.

Yeah, that's a real kick in the a$$ for sure. GM started using the CP4 and DEF in 2011 IIRC, and those were two of the reasons I went with an LMM (2007.5-2010). I know lots of folks love the LBZ, but I'm not a huge fan of the classic/cat eye front end.

Its funny, taking the cab off sounds like a huge deal to people like us, but guys with a lift can take the cab off a Duramax in short order.

If only the billable hours reflected that. 6.1hrs I believe is the billable rate from Ford for a f250
I have acces to a lift we have had the cab off my buddies F250 couple times, ac problems, half dozen bolts and about as many electrical plugs, couple coolant/ac lines. 2ish hrs IIRC..Just seems extra as kids say these days.

I’m a ford guy now, previously ram. Been a diesel guy for a very long and only chose ram or ford bc of the solid front axle. I am absolutely not a fan of independent front Suspension on a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

I’m getting a new truck this summer , will be a 350 power stroke, but like mentioned I know what I’m getting into with the cp4. I replaced the cp4 in my current truck.

If you don’t wanna mess w diesel. Your best option for a long term durable truck would be a f250 in any cab configuration and trim package with the 7.3 Godzilla gas motor and fx4 off road package.

That Godzilla is the cats ass when it comes to v8 gas motors. It’s old school reliability bc of how it’s designed, and makes some good power numbers.

This is how I'm starting to lean due to overall simplicity. The truck will be carrying a rather light truck camper most of the time (2000-2500 lbs fully loaded, Outpost 6.5) and rarely towing a 8k travel trailer. As much as I want a diesel, I can't really justify a diesel.

If you wannnnnnt a diesel you can always justify it. Hahaha I do. But to be fair, I can get away w a powerful v8, I just like the diesel and knowing I won’t really be limited moving forward in life. But they do come w some risks, inherently. Egr system, cp4 high pressure fuel pump is a literal time bomb. But everything else is solid. Haha. But I have a couple friends who bought the Godzilla and they are all happier than pigs in mud, some even converted from Chevy, but their Allison transmission and 6.2liter debacle made that easy

I was a die hard Cummins guy, and my family was a die hard GM gasser family. I’ve owned three Cummins and they all had major issues. VP-44 grenaded, multiple transmissions and a turbo in my most recent.

I work on the pipeline and it is probably the worst conditions you could put a truck into. ROW is worse than logging roads and we idle the trucks for months on end. The only vehicles that didn’t fall apart was the newer 6.7l powerstrokes. So I picked up a 22’ F-350. I have a 110k on it and zero failures. It has been absolutely thrashed and it hasn’t failed once.

The natural gas company I work for gone to 5.3l Chevy half tons for their corporate vehicles and man they are junk. Lots of issues and they feel very sluggish.

If you want a small truck that will survive the next world war, Tacoma and not the newer gen.

If you want a full size truck that will survive the next world war, super duty.

When I was doing research for a gas 3/4 ton, I kept running into that same thing. Guys that worked for companies with fleets, some as many as 100 trucks, often split between Ford & GM, had issues with the Fords far less. Guys from gas & oil industry, ROW, logging, etc, could beat the Super Duty like the others could not handle.
