Recommend a truck...

Some of the changes that this Administration is making MIGHT allow for some improvements on vehicles but I don’t know if the manufacturers will actually make changes unless there is some sort of guarantee for some longevity and consistency.

I agree though, I don’t think waiting is your answer.
Other than the changes to the software that are being implemented and can be retroactively applied to previous model years (delaying limp mode, etc), I haven't really seen anything else that gives a glimmer of hope (like changing emissions laws, etc). Have you seen something else?

Keep in mind that beginning in 2026 the eco-boost motor in the F150 will have a particulate exhaust filter. Who knows what problems, if any, that will bring. I didn’t want to take the risk and instead bought a 2025. There are plenty of 25s still left on lots.

Wait, what? They are putting filters on gassers now?!?

I would be looking at the 3.5 F150 with the max tow package and/or Tremor.
Another option would be the 7.3 Godzilla F2/350.

Everything stinks these days so it's a matter of minimizing the stink....New Tundra has a lot of engine issues they can't quite figure out. Dodge has electrical problems out the whazoo. Chevy has both engine and transmission issues. Ford has transmission issues....pick one and cross your fingers.

Nothing is worth the price they are asking, especially vehicles. I'm trying to get that truck to last as long as possible, but at some point it will need to be replaced and the whole, "hold out for quality to improve and prices to go down" strategy has basically never worked for vehicles, not once, ever. Frankly, I think you're wrong that somehow things are going to turn around. Barring a major economic catastrophe (which is coming someday, and at which point I won't be truck shopping), prices aren't ever going back to BC (Before Covid).
well I have bought a few new trucks in that exact scenario in the past ~20 years, so it’s not like it doesn’t happen. Statistically it suggests it happens more often than not.

There has been some changes to CAFE stuff which some of the problems in newer vehicles is the drive to squeeze out more and more fuel efficiency. Whether it will actually do anything, who knows but we MIGHT see something.

Not sure we are talking the same motor. GM still makes and is selling the 3.0 duramax in their 1/2 ton line up and lots of other vehicles.
I should have clarified, I know the ram 1/2 ton diesel is no good. I have not heard or researched on the GM 1/2 ton diesel. From my experience, the extra maintenance costs and cost of diesel repairs if something does go wrong, negate any positives of a diesel in a 1/2ton. I also do not think that the diesel mileage is that much better, especially when you pay more at pump.

There’s a reason all the truck guys offer big discounts on all those 150 sized trucks. They are a dime a dozen and all over used car lots. Ever see a low mileage diesel 2500 size for a good deal? I’ve had them all and the 2500 size diesels hold value better in my experience. I’ll never go back. It’s not so much about hauling…..it’s stopping when hauling.

I laugh at all the guys saying the new stuff is junk. Not long ago, a truck was shot at 100,000 miles. Now, trucks with 200,000 miles still have life left in them. When they are selling close to a million trucks a year, of course there will be some problems. But its not like trucks didn't grenade with low miles once in a while in past years. The trucks now in general go the longest with the most power and best fuel economy we have ever seen.

Now cue the guy who got 78 mpg in his 1988 with 10,000 hp. Or the guy whose BIL had a problem with his new truck at 10,000 miles.

We do pay for them though, no doubt the price has went up.

Thoughts on the 1/2 ton Tremor vs ZR2? I've heard the 3/4 ton Tremor ride is terrible. The 1500 ZR2 takes a pretty significant towing hit. The Tremor isn't quite as capable (on paper) for off-roading, but it offers a V-8 option and towing capacity is 10,000.

I think I’d be going Tremor with the 5.0

I just switched from a 2018 2500 Ram w/ Cummins to a 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD w/ the 6.6L gas. Pretty happy with the switch. It's my daily driver and I don't tow more than a handful of times a year so the diesel just didn't make sense to keep and maintain for 95% in town driving. The 10 speed transmission paired with the gas motor is super smooth. It does ride rough, though. I plan on upgrading the suspension at some point to smooth it out a bit. This will be a much cheaper option than paying for the ZR2 or even the AT4 package.

You can get the 6.2 V8 in the zr2 I’m pretty sure

You can, but that motor has some issues. I think the ford 5.0 is pretty solid, from what I’ve heard.
Yeah, of those two choices, I’m taking the F-150 with the 5.0. GM is plagued with engine, electrical, and some transmission problems.

Of those two I'd go with the 5.0 Tremor, closest of the two to doing-it-all. Also has one of the more reliable truck engines available at the moment
