Currently have a 308 barrel but possibly looking at swapping to a bartlein. I’m interested in swapping calibers. I would want something that is more long range capable, and obviously it needs to suited for big game. Readily available ammunition is a must. Should I just stick with 308?

Lots of options, stick with the parent case and go 260 or 7-08. Or step away from 308 family with 65cm. There's a lot of 6mm madness going on, 6 creed for that, 243 run to its potential has even worse barrel life than 6cm, plus lots of case length growth.

What action do you have? That will determine what your limitations are in terms of chamberings.

The easy button is the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Agree that 6.5 CM or 7-08 are excellent options that have equally if not slightly better long range potential with less recoil. Both are generally ubiquitous for factory ammo as well.

No doubt about it 6.5 creed or 7mm-08 are marginally better long range rounds for hunting, but if you love the 308 there’s nothing wrong with it either. Get one that you’re excited about.
