Reaper or the new OG 30 ?

I took a buddy out this am so he could shoot some of my different cans and see what he likes in a can. He wants 1 right now, but was unsure what exactly he wanted. It will primarily be used on a 300wsm.
I took out 3-30 cal cans, 7mm and a 6.5mm can. 30 cal cans were Scythe ti, og30 and gemtech tracker. On his 300wsm, he ranked them 1. Scythe ti, 2. Tracker and he said a distant 3rd Og30. He liked the form factor of the OG30 but noted it being louder and more felt recoil.
I then pulled out my 6.5 and let him try all 5 cans. The 7mm is an airlock, the 6.5 is an Og65. He immediately chose the Airlock as #1, Scythe ti as #2, Og65 as 3, tracker 4 and OG30 last. This guy has never shot a can in his life. I also had him shoot no muzzle device and I threw on a 360 ported Mb. Of course he thought the Mb tamed the recoil the best, my god was that thing obnoxious tho.

With Airlock 30 being unobtainable, he wants a Scythe ti. 😆 I told him of the horror stories and I'll let a grown ass man make his own decisions. Recommended the reaper, just couldn't bring myself to recommend the new OG30 based on everyone basically saying the original og30 is my worst can. I'm thinking for him, his priorities are quiet 130ish db range and recoil reduction. Either a Scythe or reaper with a brake is likely his best bet. Length he liked shorter, but said the extra length of the Scythe wasn't a deal breaker vs the OG form factor. He's sold on an airlock down the road, hopefully they are easier to get once production picks up.
Might tell your buddy to take a look at the New OG 30 & if he can hold tight for a bit it might be worth it to look at the New soon to be released Reaper’s and a Reflex.

Only 3db quieter than original, I have my reservations about recommending the new one. Until I have first hand knowledge of it, I likely won't recommend it. Also, being a new can owner with 2 of his current guns threaded 1/2×28, the adapter and OTB design i feel like is potentially more bs to deal with than he needs. Dedicated gun otb cans are great, but their lack of flexibility in barrel contour size and potential adapter issues I think are best suited for an "experienced can user." This guy is almost 60 and I can just hear the phone calls now. 😆 the fact that my OTBs wouldnt go on his sendero .308 was enough for him to be annoyed. I told him he just needs more cans. 😆

Is the reaper getting redesigned? I thought they were just adding a 4" an 8" and a reflex option?

Went to my favorite gun store last week and talked to the owner Richard about Unknown suppressors and he decided to be a dealer for them. Mantiques in Florence Colorado. Ordered a Reaper yesterday. It's going to nice losing 10 ounces off the front of my Tikka.
Recently spent a week shooting with my brother and 8 other friends. My brother bought the reaper for his 6.5 creedmoor and the reaper was his first can. I just used the "sucky" prototype OG 30 for that week and for the following 2 weeks. We had a variety of cans there and several of the guys will be purchasing the reaper based on what they liked hearing.
You'll be happy with the reaper.

The Original OG was exactly what we said it was. It's 133ish dbs on a 20”. .308. I said countless times before it came out that it's not the quietest suppressor. Listen to the podcast. But I like how it sounds, and that is still true. I shot one today.

Now, a year later, lots of lessons learned; the new OG 30 will shock people at how quiet a 4” suppressor can be. I will only use muzzle-forward cans if I am forced to or for testing/reviews.

So when can I get one in 35 cal? I walked by some rifles today, 20” t/c with Og6s and an 18” AR with an AB Raptor 375. The TC was significantly shorter. I want that on my 358 socom AR.

Me too… I’ll be in line for one or two right behind you. Have to settle for the Vers36 on my 35 whelen and 358 win right now. It should be out of jail soon to try out.

Because the AB raptor in 375 only comes in the 8 or 10 stack configuration. You can get a raptor in 2, 4, or 6 in smaller calibers.

You got to compare apples to apples man.

I think you missed my point, I want a shorter, light can for 35 cal. Pretty sure the new OG 30 could work with a little modification. I know there has been talk of a 35 cal reaper, but I want short as I already have longer cans that work fine, several in fact.
While the AB cans offer a reflex, it doesn’t make them shorter or lighter, just quieter. The OG6s on a single shot is a nice compact rifle even with a 20” barrel. Didn’t realize how much until I built one. Now I want that same short profile in 35 cal. If US can do a run of 22 cal cans, why not a run of 35 cal for us Midwest guys?
