Real world 410 range for turkey

40 yards is not an issue IMO from the patterning I've done through my Stevens 555 and my daughters Rossi Poly Tuffy Turkey. So essentially normal turkey ranges.

I personally know of a few turkeys killed to 60 with .410 TSS and not hope and prayer shots but extensive choke and gun combo testing.

My boy dumped a turkey at 40 yards last year with one shot from a single shot 410 with a red dot sight. I think it would be fun to shoot a turkey with it, but with how expensive the shells are I will save them for the kids and stick with my trusty 12 gauge.

Guys talking 40 yards with .410 and no TSS is a pipe dream or the golden pellet!

.410 is the only thing I have seen be finicky with TSS.
I have to respectfully disagree with you. I smoked that guy at 50 yards and it was bang but no flop. His head was hammered and that was with the stock choke.

40 yards is doable with 2.5 inch 6s. Turkeys die easy. Dove loads in a 20 kill em just as dead at those ranges.

.410 shotgun doesn't limit your range like you'd think. It's a little easier to miss with because the pattern is not as wide. If compared to standard 12ga with lead you're not really giving yourself more challenge. A .410 pistol has the problem with the straight rifled choke requirement that limits you to about 15 yards unless you work around it.

There's no rule that says you have to kill as far as the gun allows. You can draw your line anywhere.

The most challenging I've done is recurve without blind nor decoy. Near impossible unless you're a much better than average shot. I am not. Honestly not as much fun as shotgun.

Have never killed any with TSS out of my .410s, only lead 4s and 6s. It’s what I used for probably my first 6 or 7 years of Turkey hunting til I graduated to a 12. Never had any issues stoning birds 40-45 yards and in with mossberg 500 .410 factory full choke and lead. TSS i’d imagine 50 and in easy but if patterned well could reach out to 60.
Put the pipe down.

You won’t have a problem 30-40 yds and in. My daughter knocked a bird down yesterday with her .410 at around 25 yds.

Stevens 301 with a red dot and federal tss 9s have been extremely effective for my wife and kids. They’ve killed a handful of toms with them from 25 out to 45 yards and never had one try to walk away. The pattern with that shell and stock choke is really impressive.

.410 with TSS is a consistent 40 yard gun. It’s not as limiting as you would think. Now maybe if you decided to hunt them with a .410 Judge handgun or something. Now that might be a challenge.
