Hoyt RX-1 Ultra 71# 29" draw - 483gr at 281 fps.I remember just before elk season there was a thread (which i cant find) , where folks were talking about arrow speeds with their hunting setups. Ive been using my same old bow madness (drawing 29" and shooting about 268fps or so with a 510 grain arrow), and i feel like i should upgrade (stupid), but all the fast ass bows seem to shoot in roughly the same range with that heavy an arrow. Thoughts? Numbers? Convince me one way or another if you please.
Thanks in advance.
Wow, that's a sick looking bow. What's the ATA on that?Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo zt 72/30
560gr Day Six arrows not sure what point I’m going to use yet
Chrono’d it at an average of 275fps for 5 shots.
Should be a killer setup!

PSE Evoke 28" 60# shooting Goldtip Airstrike 433gr and 245fps
That should be good enough for most game right?
Good points. In the 24 years that I've had my shop I have seen hundreds of people come in thinking they are 30 inch/70 lb. shooters. The reality is the vast majority of bow hunters fall into the 27.5' to 28.5" draw length and should be shooting less poundage. Virtually all those 30" draw shooters, once put in the correct draw length and manageable draw weight have become better archers and better bowhunters and wounding rates are better as well. Not saying that there are not true 30"/70lb + shooters but they are not the average. So many archers are so driven by speed that they actually end up overbowed. The thing is, your talking to a bunch of guys, guys are notorious for having to have the fastest, biggest, prettiest, longest etc, you get my point. Even if they have to lie about it. So many go off of the manufactures ibo speed ratings and truly none of the bows make what they claim. So the figures are off from the get go. Truly need a chronograph to tell the truth. Again guys are not going to tell you they shot slower then they thought. At the archery range it’s amazing how many people think their bows are way way faster then they actually are. And 95% of those guys say the chrony is way off, and their math figure is correct. Any way, self made long bow ( hybrid) 168 FPS with a 480 gr. total arrow weight. 60 lb. compound 28.5 inch draw, same 480 gr. Arrow 243 FPS. and yes these could be off by a little +or- but its really close. I have not shot over the chrono. in about a year.
