Found a used Razor HD LH for $400, is it worth grabbing over a new Trijicon Huron/Ascent in the same price/power range? Would be hunting scope only on a 284 Win. Shots are limited to 400 on game. Thoughts

The the G4 reticle in some of the HD LH is my favorite set and forget reticle for a scope to be used from up close to 400 yds. Its thick where it should be, had good practical ticks for hold over and the center dot makes zero and group shooting nice. I wish it was in the 3-9 shv and a the Hurons

Comparing the specs on the scopes, The Huron is 4-5 oz heavier with a 30mm tube ( and looking at the drop test results on other Vortex and Trijicon scopes) I can't help feel that the toughness edge would go to the Huron.

Just my feeling, I have 5 of the HD LHs, but only one Trijicon and its an accupoint not a Huron Though a huron 2-5-10 is likely on my purchase list.

Loved my HD LH until the mag ring locked up. Sold the warranty replacement (which was not a LH as they’re discontinued) NIB and bought a credo.

Im not a fan of bdc reticles in general, but most folks I think would be happy with either reticle, they arent so massively different. Imo the differences are preference or maybe focused on very specific use-cases, more so than functional differences that everyone would notice.
That said, I’ll personally take the trijicon every time based on experiences with other vortex scopes. The only reason I dont own that 2.5-10 huron is because I dont care for bdc reticles. If it was available in their standard German #4 reticle (ie g4, get it?) or even a regular duplex, or a standard wall-to-wall mil-dot with nice big heavy outer stadia, I’d own it.

This will be a set and forget scope for me. Either the moa or bdc reticles from either company are acceptable and I will do a little range work to figure out holdovers. Weight and glass are my primary considerations.
