Rattlesnake

. I've shot a few dozen probably over the years and it usually went the same way, completely limp snake, cut head off with my pocket knife and then 5 minutes later they start squirming all over.
Is it with the same Walmart special knife you use on everything else and as a handful of other tools?

I have one, mine is just the black version, but use it the same way.

I also never realized snake bites can be "dry", I always figured if you got bit by a venomous snake, it was a venomous bite and to get to the hospital ASAP. The fun things you learn on Rokslide.

lol it's turn is coming soon I'm sure because that's all I carry now, but hopefully later rather than sooner. I did cut a mower tire off the rim with it, guess I should update that thread lol.

The dry bites are interesting. Some say the snake decides whether to inject or not but it may also be a timing issue as well or maybe they just bit something else and need to recharge? They definitely happen though.

My favorite weapon was a driver (golf club) that the head snapped off. Quick, and I could pull the snake back when they tried to escape before I hit them. I don’t remember how many I killed with that thing. A shovel is alright, but in rocky terrain the head can be difficult if the snake was between rocks, and they are a bit unwieldy.

And yet a 20ga is better in every way!!!!!!

My wife and I were riding a local WMA today and ran over this guy. No rattler at all. Brought it home to skin it out and started pulling #9 TSS pellets out. During turkey season someone shot it about 1 ft behind the head and again towards the tail. It must have survived, our turkey season was over a month ago!20260611_221407.jpg20260611_223720.jpg20260611_223723.jpg

This March in Kansas. Was pretty cold out when I got him. Am getting pretty soft as I get older. So I let most everything live. Unless its a rattler or skunk around the house.
