Rangefinding Binoculars

Dumb question: Just bought a pait of Geovid R's, April 2025. So they should be covered under passport warranty plan. The owners manual that they come with says otherwise. Did Leica just not upgrade the manual or did I get hosed?

Sure. But whether it is a large difference between ballistics and not depends on the use, the rifle system, ranges being shot, and scenarios.

If I were not legitimately training regularly, and hence also not being competent enough to shoot animals past 600’ish yards, AND not actually taking 600+ yard shots on game animals regularly- then I would choose a cartridge and bullet that tracks near perfectly to Quick Drop and not worry about the ballistics.

If I were training constantly to be able to take 600+ yard shots on animal, and ACTUALLY were killing animals frequently past 600 yards- especially animals that move a lot (rutting bucks) and/or trying to shoot multiple animals out of a herd (cow elk), and/or being the spotter for multiple other shooters frequently shooting at longer ranges…. Then I would choose Revics.
Thanks. Re reading my post i meant to say my “competition” participation does not warrant the extra cost. Someone was kind enough to loan me some sigs at a match and they were awesome for getting ranges, but I don’t know I’d spend hours behind them on a tripod during a hunt and be happy.

For hunting I think I’d rather have the better glass and use a separate RF. How do the Geovid R compare to SLCs?

Unfortunately my current gun is range minus 1.6… so my quick drop is not quite as quick, but I’m half decent at math so I’ll make it work for now 👍

I certainly it am not.

Both good. The SLC’s are a touch better in color pop, but again- the Geovid R’s are just comfortable to glass through.

Oh that’s easy.

I just spent 5 days behind Kilo10K . Once you get them properly adjusted they're great. Setting your display timeout and knowing how to adjust the windage direction while paired with the weather data center helps a lot. The brightness settings likely were properly set right which is why you might not like the display. The "blue hue" was the chief complaint for most people. The gen2 models have the blue removed. To fully use them and be proficient, I feel like you need to use them several days in a row. I've mostly used mine for archery up till last week. I feel really good about using them now.

If you don’t know your dope, then by all means use the computer.

I’m just saying I don’t need it inside 700/800 yards and it’s faster to just see the yardage and go, rather than waiting for the calculator to spit out numbers that I already have scorched into my brain.

My sig Kilo10K kicks out the yardage at the exact same time as the ballistic solution. So there is no 'waiting'. As soon as I range, i read the solution, dial my scope and line up the gun

It's limited sample size and my range time has only allowed me to shoot out to 400 yards, but the first ballistic profile in the Leica Pros for my 30-06 (Bergara Premier Stalker/Federal Premium cartridge with180 grain Barnes bullets, Nomad TI suppressor) has been spot on for 300 and 400 yard adjustments. I'm using a Trijicon Accupoint exposed turret scope. It's early, but it definitely feels like cheating because it's been so simple.

If this thread continues, I'll post updates as I continue to use the Leicas and as I add more rifle profiles. I just added data to create a profile for a 243 Tikka with AB suppressor but haven't had a chance to shoot using the Leicas for the adjustments.

LRF binos with ballistics generally return readings slower than yardage-only options, some by up to 2 seconds (or more if you have the vortex).

That’s my point. I never said your yardage and correction readings come up at different times. I’m saying mine tell me the range faster because the computer inside your binos has to run its hamster wheel before it shows you numbers.

What would be your top 3 cartridge/bullet for this (sub 600 90% of time)

Had the geovid hdb 2000 and 2200 years ago and the laser in both shit the bed before temps even got down to freezing. Finally gave RF binos another shot recently with sig 10k gen 2s. Glass still has a little blue in the right barrel but is decent. Unfortunately not as good as I remember the leicas being from a glass perspective but not bad.

I really like the AB interface (kestrel and kilo 2400-abs) and the setup for wind adjustments. I like how lightning fast the solutions are and how distance, elevation, and wind are all on the screen constantly not toggling between them. I like the simplicity of the wind adjustments.

I looked through @rharbaugh’s revics for 30 seconds last weekend. Compared to my sigs they had better ergos and the focus wheel was stiffer but didn’t have some “lash” or play in it like the sigs. They didn’t seem to have the blue hue of the sigs. I preferred the crosshairs reticle option ddi had in the sigs to the circle the Regis had and preferred the data/solution display of the sigs. That data does get a bit more busy on the image but I think I like that tradeoff. I think I prefer the “best” ranging config to the revics short or long option.

Haven’t really got into the weeds on total capability of each and having not done detailed glass comparison, I think I’d prefer the sigs for NRL and gaming and the revics might have some aspects that make them more attractive for hunting?

And what I'm telling you is that my kilo is basically instant. There is no "waiting" .

Thanks to this thread Geovid Rs showed up on my doorstep. First step up into good glass from diamondbacks

I just received in the geovid pro AB+....

holy piss. The price just increased to $3850.

Even 40% off of $3600 makes me wince. But $3850 is insane.

At first glance, without messing with any diopters...The glass seems pretty ******* awesome.

Haven't started playing with the ranging or app yet. This weekend i'll start playing with it.

Was the 3600 the pre-tariff price?
