Rangefinders... how long do they last?

Most common LRF failure is the laser getting knocked off from an impact so it’s not actually where your reticle is aiming and you end up getting a reading other than what you think you’re pointing it at.

Other electronic failures do occur though and will cause them to not range properly or as far. Has nothing to do with price or tier, I’ve seen $5K-$20K Vectronix units fail in the exact same way where they no longer range as far.

With that said, Vortex LRF’s are not very good. Personally I’d get them replaced, sell the NIB replacement and upgrade to a Leica. They’re the best bang for the buck and the ones that connect to Kestrels are pretty sweet.
