I have found a handful of coiled elastic type lanyards marketed for rangefinders etc. I am wondering if anyone has found one that is strong enough that the weight of a typical rangefinder does not cause it to extend?

I don’t know but I can guarantee you should use one on steep scree goat hunting, can’t reel that one back in! Good news, I have a new rangefinder this year.

Wouldn't think you'd want it that stiff. Might be more difficult (not hard by any means) to bring it to your eye causing a little shaking or vibration in your picture. Just a thought.

I have the kuiu lanyard and it's not stiff enough to hold the rangefinder and stay coiled.

Very true. I would like to find a happy balance where if you were to let it hang its not gonna pendulum into your twignberries, but not take a power move to bring to eye level. I might grab something from gear keeper.

Several years ago I bought a Nikon retractable line for my RF and it definitely won't let the RF slide, but I couldn't stand the RF flopping around attached to it. So I keep the RF lanyard around my neck and my RF in my chest pocket.

If there long enough when stretched to hit you below the waist then cut the sucker down a bit.

I have the fhf pig tail. It’s a little long but good. I have also used the curly shoelaces from Walmart. They are about $2 for the set and work the same.

Purpose of them being coiled is to eliminate the length of lanyard from being a nuisance, it organizes it. You won't find one that is going to support a typical rangefinder's weight without coming uncoiled. They're meant to work in conjunction with a pouch to support them when not in use. They do make the retractable cable coil systems that may work for what you're wanting but i have no experience with them.

My intention for seeking something out would be in a scenario where I miss the pouch or similar and then a dropping piece of equipment makes an unwanted noise.
