Well I am looking to purchase an end all pair of binos, hopefully the last pair I will need for a long long time. At the same time I really need a rangefinder. I notice that euro optic has the Swarovski El Range 10x42's on sale for $2400, seems like a good price.

Do you guys think about range/bino combos? What are the disadvantages. This will be for rifle hunting btw

The disadvantages are a slight bluish tint to the view, the price, and the fact that if they break you're out the LRF and the binos until they get repaired or replaced, and that the LRF components have SHIT for warranty regardless of company. The advantages are speed, integrated unit, lower overall weight.

For me, and if it were me (and this is what I've done), I'd put the money into a separate LRF that if it goes tit's up I can have it repaired/replaced without sidelining my binos. For alpha glass, Swaro is THE way to fly, if you're into that kind of coin on binos; the optics are literally world class and their customer service is second to none. As for the LRF, I'm simply rocking a Vortex 1) because they are the only ones in the business with an unconditional lifetime warranty, and 2) they are cheap enough to replace if it does go bad or disappear and can't get fixed/replaced under warranty.

eLightfoot,
I don't know what they have left to choose from. The Victoy T FL 10X45 might work for you, big savings ($500)over the Swaro EL RF - true one hand operation, from 10yds-1300yds and a transferable (limited life time) warranty. HD glass - 35 oz. good in low light, high quality and rugged construction. Go to look at the "gear deals" for back in April. Have no time with mine yet to make any kind of review.
Good luck whatever way you choose to go. LaGriz

I have that same unit and have been very happy with them. Nice being able to have both in one unit and after 2 full years of use, in Alaskan weather, mine have never let me down.

Just to add,, they do not range closer than 30 yards I believe it is, so not the best choice for bow hunting maybe.

They do have angle compensation, so when used with a ranging scope. Range,, twist and fire for effect.

Like Steve, I also have the 10 x 42 EL Range and absolutely love them. I've only had them for probably a little less than a year now and these replaced both my other rangefinder and Swaro binocular's. When I'm bow hunting, I figure that I'm pretty good at ranging things up to 30 yards anyway, so not having the ability to do that with my binoculars is not that big of a deal for me.

I prefer to know rather than estimate.

This. Range estimation is a good skill for being a competent outdoorsman, but using extremely precise, readily available technology to be as precise as possible is part of being a responsible outdoorsman.
