Random Favor/Request from a Californian

Super random favor to ask. I am finishing a shed and am just now realizing that smaller sliding windows are now illegal in California as egress codes have changed. I went to order a horizontal slider (shed already framed) and low and behold, ordering them online is prohibited and businesses will not ship to California (for obvious reasons). So lots of window types are now added to the list of things illegal to have in California.

Would anyone on here be up for me shipping you my window (not in California) and then paying you the shipping costs to send it to me in the packaging it arrived in. You would literally have to do nothing but address the package to me and then drop it off at the post office. I will order/ship the window and provide you what it costs to ship to me (plus some for your time). I'm happy to throw in a couple of elk waypoints as well.

Maybe PM me and we can have this discussion off of the main thread? This sucks but I am in a spot where I dont know of any other solution. For reference, this is the window I am looking at https://www.menards.com/main/doors-...ment-windows/w3214/p-1444436037861-c-7696.htm

Please let me know if you have any questions and apologies in advance if this somehow violates some rules on here.

This feels like a sting operation. I can’t go back to the joint for movin’ windows.

In all seriousness, this seems absolutely ludicrous. Not you asking for someone to ship a window. Rather, the fact that you are living in the 4th biggest global economy (CA that is) and can’t buy yourself a means to look outside. What has happened to us.

I’d certainly help you out, but the shipment would be coming from AK and most of the Amazon packages that make it to my door look like they have been pawed over by a grizz. I’d hate for your window to get the same treatment.

Why can’t they ship windows to California?

That seems like a fairly simple window, is there another distributor that can do it?

I can’t give you any window advice, but I can say YOU ARE IN A DUMPSTER FIRE OF A STATE!
I also wonder how they could possibly enforce these stupid laws. If it was me I would tell them to go pound sand and then pay a fine if it came to that.

Midway wouldn't ship me a trigger for a Remington 700 to California until I emailed the front and back of my drivers license and then I got F**ked an extra 11% gun tax imposed in California. If I could I would bail out of this sh*thole in a hot second. By the way , it was ONLY $7.69 / gal. for diesel when I filled up yesterday.

That window wouldn’t meet egress requirements anywhere. I’d love to see the law that bans them in CA. Just for shits and giggles I punched in some addresses from Montana to Washington and Home Depot won’t ship one that size to any of them. They won’t ship or stock them in AK either. I wonder if it’s less of a legality thing and more of a no demand thing?

Hey all,
Thanks for chiming in. Its as laughable to me as it is everyone else...I think I laugh to keep from crying honestly. I found some help I think so thank you to those who reached out. In short, more states have restrictions on specific windows for specific legislation/egress requirements than I thought. California just puts a twist on it. I spoke with a window retailer in Wyoming (where I originally was going to have the window shipped from) and they cited that because of California Senate Bill 253, their small store, in order to ship to California their business is required to provide documentation for all emissions that go into making the window, as well as all emissions documented that are tied to the shipping of the window. In short, its not illegal to get the window, but businesses large and small are refusing (rightfully so) to ship to california for the burdensome cost obviously associated with it.

I was able to find a good basement window at Home Depot and can have it shipped to Boise Id for free.

I would drive to another state but I live on the Central Coast and the AZ/Nv border is 8+ hours away. Many of us make a once a year trip for gas mowers/generators etc and we take orders for our friends but was hoping to not drive 16 hours to get a $70 window lol.

California is sinking faster than I thought when its harder to get a window than a lot of actual contraband lol.

I appreciate this forum for making me feel sane...

They outlawed gas lawn mowers?
Yes any gas mower, small engine, weed whacker, blower etc. Ban for sale of new products went into effect on Jan 1 2024. You can still legally use them in CA, you just cant buy new ones or specific replacement parts for your gas engine.

Wow.
I haven’t kept up with laws out there since I pulled the pin a few years back.

? Im in the shithole of MN and pretty sure we have no restrictions on shed windows? Any window would have helped me when the wind blew the doors shut and the small blocks of wood used for locking the door turned enough to lock me in. Wife sent my 3 year old to save me....
