The 68RFE transmission is 100% junk. I have had nothing but issues with them over the years...but I keep buying those damn Rams/Cummins. Majority of the transmission issues come from the celinoid pack and/or valve body.

Yesterday my daughter and I went scouting in my 2016. We drove over 300 miles with some of those being 4wd roads and several rocky and wash-boarded roads too. I pulled into the garage showing 16.7mpg average, and the fuel gauge is just below 1/2. The computer average has been spot on every time I fill up. That mileage is as good or even better than my 7.3L diesel for a trip like that, so I'm good with that.

Also happened to a buddy of mine. 2013 (year could be wrong) Dodge EcoDiesel. Engine blew on his way back from MT. Cost him over $13K I believe.

Other rigs aren't immune though. Also had a buddy who owned a 2014 F250 6.7L with only 34k miles. Engine blew up on him on way to camping. Costed him $23k.

These two instances happened within a week of each other (we are all friends), I was scared to drive my 2016 F350!

I hear of more problems with the Ford Eco Boost twin turbo gas motors Than anything.

No mnfr is immune to issues. Those V8’s are pretty bullet proof….but not the best fuel mileage.

My Ram limited is the best truck I’ve owned…and I have had them all in gas and diesel.

It looks like Ram dropped that eco diesel in the latest models…or just not an option in the models Im looking at. So did ford.

I have owned 4 dodge gas engines in my lifetime. The 2000 V8 had a shit transmission. Tranny went out at 17k miles on way home from ohio to NC in a snow storm. I had taken it to the dealer before the trip to see what the check engine light was on for. It was just a "Glitch", all is fine. Good ol Service Dept. My Ram Rebel V8 was fine but i sold it and got a new F250 Diesel. Now i just have to sit back and watch fuel prices skyrocket again lately.

If you’re using it for work then it’s a guarantee it’ll go out. At that time you can have it built right and enjoy the reliability of the Cummins .

Moved on to the optional Aisin transmission and it's a world of difference!
 
the ecodiesal uses the same bosch cp4 fuel pump that the 6.7 powerstroke uses from 2011 to current, 2011 to 2016 duramax used it then ditched it for a denso thats supposed to be more reliable, cummins used it on the 6.7 for a year or 2 around 2020 not sure on the exact year, they went back to the cp3 due to issues. The cp4 pump is not tolerable to water in fuel or bad fuel. Good fuel treatment with lube ever tank would be highly recomended.

first gen ecodiesals had there issues, my brother but 420,000 km on one(deleted) till it snapped the crank. that truck did alot of heavy towing. There issues are well documented as is making them last.

This cp4 is junk so many failures you can't get spare parts...part of the reason I went 7.3 gas motor in my F250 instead 6.7, that and the 7.3 gets better mileage than Tundra and its more capable.

Most of my buddies with the 6.7 have added the S&S DPK to the cp4.

THe Bosch cp4 fuel pump SUCKS!!! My 2016 F350 had to have the whole fuel system replaced, gas tank, dropped, emptied, cleaned, etc.... Such an awful part to be in so many Ford trucks. I was one of the lucky ones. Took it in and was on my last year of warranty coverage with 97k miles. They needed to pull and look at injector heads. If there was rust, which meant bad gas or water in gas, they wouldn't cover. No rust so they replaced. $8k on Fords dime, including a rental car.

I will NOT put a gallon of gas in my tank without adding Diesel Kleen (grey bottle) additive. Our diesel here in the US (thank you government) is not as lubricous as diesel in other countries so the pump sends metal shaving throughout the entire fuel system.

My 2022 Ram Rebel died yesterday
Truck was running fine and suddenly threw 4 codes
Two that I recall is the ESC and Low Oil Pressure
Truck limped to 5mph and I pulled in a parking lot where the wrecker towed it to the dealership
I'll find out Monday but as of now their computers do not show anything like this in the database
This is the 5.7 Hemi

What kind of mileage are you getting with your 7.3? I can seem to get over 12mpg, although I’m pulling a trailer most of the time in around town.
