Ram 1500 Owners - Are You Pleased With It?

2018 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 Heimi. Bought the truck new and its been the best truck I have ever owned. I'm not brand loyal so I've had Chevy's, GMC's and Fords.

We have a 2023 (I think) 1500 classic Warlock with the Penstar V6. We spec’d it out with the lower gears, etc. and had Dave Smith order it. It’s been good so far. Parking sensors are sometimes goofy, that’s about it.

I think the jury is still out on the 6 cylinder Hurricane engine. Rumor has it that the Hemi V8 will be back in the lineup soon.

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel with the Hemi and ZF 8spd auto trans. It is rated to tow 11,250. I've towed my 30' toyhauler that weighs 10k loaded all over the west. I'd guess that close to half of my 78k miles were towing. I've had the truck in the shop for the recalled rear glass window and a broken exhaust manifold stud. No other issues. The trip computer shows that the avg fuel mileage since new is 14.7mpg. I can get 20mpg on road trips with no trailer. I'd buy another today if I could get the Hemi in it.

I have a 2019 1500 Bighorn with the 5.7
Mine is a bit different as its lifted 6" with 35s.
I do like the truck but do have a few complaints on it. and some fixes
Engine wise mine had both manifolds replaced. It took 3 weeks to get them both as one was on back order due to the popularity of them breaking.
I have a coolant leak that is just a small leak and still trying to chase that stupid thing down. But its just barely a seap.
The big thing I hate with mine is the fuel tank size.
Its like 26 gallon. The biggest reason I hate it is when pulling my camper i have to stop about every 150-160 miles. That part sucks.

There are a few fixes for some of these things.
With the manifolds you can fix this issue by putting a set of shorty headers on it. They are somewhat reasonable price wise at about $500 for the set. And then no more manifolds breaking.

The lifter issue because of the MDS can be helped by shutting off the MDS. The best way to do this in my opinion is a programmer. You can get one for about $500 that plugs directly to the PCM in the engine compartment and you set the programming through the menu in the dash using the Audio function. Will shut the MDS off plus you can get some added benefits like changing shift points and correcting tire size if needed.

These are both things I have yet to do but hope to do soon as when I bought my truck prices were higher than they are now so pretty much upside down in it now just due to value it has now. So got to keep it for a while.

Other than that I like the truck...could do without the lift though that's for sure.

I like the interior and it rides ok, but with being lifted and the 10ply 35s it doesn't ride like it would if stock.

Towing wise it does well. Our camper is 5,000 empty and the truck handles it ok, not the best, but ok.
If i had my choice to do over again I wish I wouldn't have bought this one just so I could have got a 3/4 ton truck which would handle my camper better and could have got it for a much better price now than when I bought mine.

But overall I'm happy with the truck as we don't tow the camper all the time so I can handle what it does on the truck for now.

2019 Ram here, Tradesman model so very basic interior. I don't mind that it's not sexy, I liked the lower price tag. Very pleased with it and would buy again.

My 2014 Ram 1500 hemi had lifter tick issues. Redline 5W30 helped a bit, but I wish I'd flashed it to eliminate the cylinder deactivation.

Exhaust manifold bolts sheared twice. Once around 90k miles and again at 125k miles. Sold it after that.

2015 v6 with 90k on it. Bought used at 16k. No big issues, a few little electrical type things (interior light stays on while driving), but for the most part it's been a great truck.

Me and my brother both had 2019 Big Horns with the V6. Both trucks started having engine problems around 40k miles. We also had the same issue with a 2019 Jeep GC. I’ll never drive MOPAR again…unless it’s a Ram SRT-10.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4. 174000 miles. Love it. Looking to replace as mileage getting high - may replace with another lower mileage Ram 1500 as I do not trust the new trucks nor do I want to pay the $$ for the new trucks!

I had a 2014 Ram 1500 for 5 years, about 117,000 miles when I sent it down the road. It was great up to 100k. No issues, plenty of power, great ride, and decent mileage. Once it hit 100k, that was all out the window. Replaced everything in the front end, motor issues began as well as replacing the ECM.
Replaced it with a 2019 Tundra that I've put 120K on with nothing but routine maintenance and LOTS of gas. I still see the old Ram running around town though, so its still kicking with what I'd have to believe is well over 200k by now.

I have a 2019 (New Body Style) 1500 with 5.7 hemi non E Torque that just turned over 100,000 miles. The issues that I have had were a break squealing issue when backing. Covered under warranty. I also had both exhaust manifold replaced. That was under my extended warranty. Other than that, it's been great.

2020 1500 with 5.7 hemi and 160k miles. It has been a great truck. It also squeaks when breaking but only when cold or wet- first time backing in the morning after cold or hard rain. I thought it was just a quirk of this truck but sounds a lot like what archp625 had fixed under warranty. Very comfortable ride. My son is 6'4" and rides comfortably in the huge backseat.

I am really regretting purchasing my 2019 Ram 1500. It only has 31,000 miles on it and has been completely dead twice. I have it for family trips, hunting and hauling materials.

The RF Hub which controls the truck's ignition system has now failed twice, when it dies the truck locks down and sets the ebrake. If you need to tow, you would have to disconnect the drive train, you can manually release the ebrake but no manual way to get it into neutral. "Ram Care" just says you are out of warranty, we cant help you. I have paid out of pocket once to fix this issue created by a horrible design flaw (the window and 3rd tail light leak and the RF hub is located directly below this). Now, 8 months later I have a dead truck again. Thank goodness this did not happen in the back country, it actually failed the day I was leaving on my OR deer hunt. I don't know what I would have done if it failed up there, we were 2 hours off pavement. I ended up borrowing my dads GMC 2500 diesel, not as comfortable for the 15.5 hour drive but way better gas mileage and reliability.

Ram used to be a great company, but their customer service is horrible and a lot of the gen 5 1500's have this same issue. I will never buy another Ram after this experience and I will do everything in my power to prevent others from making the same expensive mistake I made. My dad's old gen 4 2017 Ram 1500 was great, I should have bought it when he sold it to upgrade to the GMC.

I am looking at a used Tundra gen 2, I don't want to own a truck that makes me pucker every time it rains.

I'm further down the road with my 2019 Ram ,5.7l, Air ride about 80,000 mi-and finally had my first issue, the wiper fluid sprayer doesn't work. I might try some compressed air in the nozzles before taking it in. I must have a good one....either that or the 15-3 rule is alive and well. [people are more likely to complain vs praise]

The Toyota Tundra with the 3.4L I max has been rated as one of the worst reliable power trains and plagued with problems.

I know the new Hurricane has had some thermostat issues...and a couple other possible problems but from what I hear Ram has already fixed the thermostat thing.

It could be that the new Toyota and Ram motor designs need more tweaking to be reliable which would not be a surprise- it's always been that way with new models. My buddy has the new Ram Tungsten with the dual turbo Hurricane and says it tows his boat better than his 5.7 Ram.

Heck, I'm looking at going back to a 3/4 ton Diesel and the complaints in the past on diesels and their problems are crazy. The new 6.7L diesels from Ram and Ford are proving to be pretty good...and that Duramax too- just don't get good mileage with all of the emissions on them.

I think it all boils down to whether you drive a truck into the dirt holding it for 20 years...or you trade them off every 5-8 years. I can't imagine a dual turbo small displacement motor grinding it out trouble free for a dozen years. I blame that on emissions standards...not on the manufacturers themselves. They have been asked to do the impossible.

I bet that Hurricane motor can get 20mpg without the strict emissions and know guys that deleted their diesels and are getting fantastic mileage.

Just returned from a 3 month trip from AZ to UT, ID, MT, WY and CO. Bed loaded to the top of the shell and towing my 10k lb toy hauler. Drove over 6k miles. Dropped the toy hauler and loaded up my hunting gear and drove from AZ to WY and back. Just under 90k miles and no additional repairs only oil, filters and the first trans filter/fluid change. Truck has every option (minus moon roof) including the air ride suspension. Just made the last payment and the extended warranty expires this month so I fully expect some major failure is in my future.
