Most of you will find this gathering memorable but not cheap. Batten down the hatches and keep the gate closed. Unless things have changed - the only thing that moves them along will be serious winter snow.

I remember when it came to warren county, PA both times. Most recent was no problem. 10 years before, totally different story. Theft and general nuisance bullshit all over the county.

I remember my first experience with this in WV. I was like "what are all those ambulances for"?

Grand County was smart to oppose this while it still in the planning/rumor phase. Routt County and the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District should do the same. 30,000 people in one area of public land is going to be an environmental disaster. Someone up in that area should take before and after photos and post them here. I feel bad for the locals there because as @Pony Soldier mentioned, they aren't all suddenly going to leave on July 8th.

Almost be better for the forest if a natural disaster hit and they couldn't gather there, likely recover faster from that, than everything they'll do to it.

It will be more concentrated and totally unnecessary but I doubt it will be any worse than side by sides, ATV and hunters in general. There seems to be little regard for the land these days. I just hope they don’t start a fire.

I remember when there was one down at el vado lake in New Mexico, some long hair got his ear chopped off with a machete (presumably for doing sex to the wrong hairy hippy girl), he didn’t even go to the hospital, he just roughed out the chopped off ear and moved on.

These are dirty dirty people, if they do come there, that part of the woods will be a hive of gonnorhea, crabs and human waste for years to come.

For those of you that have experienced this, how early do they start showing up? We have a planned vacation to the Steamboat area next week, so only a week before they are supposed to gather. Any advice on what to expect timing wise? How much do they spread out?

I feel like I'm talking about a group of lepers...

Rainbow members also tried to cut off a Nederland local's head with a shovel back in 2009...

I have to wonder what the average attendee age is. This is 1960s, Boomer-Hippie ideals, which largely died out in the 80s. I’m imagining a bunch of dreadlocked relics hobbling around. Do train kids and gutterpunks attend Rainbow Gatherings? Also, how much will attendance be effected by fuel prices?

When they showed up in the 80s north of Newport Wa, we got brown recluse spiders. When they showed up south of Butte Mt, headaches and dirtballs showed up from Dillon to Butte for the summer. Since no one is in charge, there is no one to address the problems or solutions. Think of it as a traveling superfund site. Impossible to just ignore and lots of impact to the gathering area.
