Rab Andes Down Jacket

Anyone have any experience with this jacket? Planning an elk hunt in unit 415 in Montana the first week of November this year as long as I draw a tag..Any other recommendations you guys have? I’m from Indiana and have never been out there, any must have items I should be looking out for? Not sure if this company is anti hunter or not, I don’t feel warm and fuzzy when I give companies that are my money.

I would not go for 650 down. Look at the RAB Alpine Microlight. I bought one a few weeks ago and love it. Very warm and comfy. I’m not aware of RAB being anti hunting.

Are you saying because of packability reasons or warmth? The 750 fill has 5 oz. of insulation and the 650 fill has 13.3 oz of insulation. I would think 8 oz of extra insulation would make up for the lower fill weight.

November in Montana, I would go big. I run a Rab Neutrino and have never been cold in it down to zero. Have used it for 5 seasons now with no wear signs. Great jacket.

Some simple math can help you compare warmth:

Ran Andes 650 FP x 13.5 oz = 8775

8 oz x 800 FP = 6400

So the Andes will be 37% warmer.

But the Andes is 34 oz total weight so 2 lbs 2 ounces vs neutrino 21 ounces
I’d 1 lb 5 ounces so almost a lb difference.

So you gotta consider warmth to weight when deciding on which to buy. I think this is why the previous poster wouldn’t buy 650 fp down, and frankly, I wouldn’t either. I’d go with the neutrino.

At the weight the Andes is. You’d be better off getting something like the Sitka WS. It’s going to be warmer and it has a gore WS layer.

You don't want to support anti hunting companies yet you link to Backcountry for that jacket? You must have missed all the BS surrounding them forcing people out of business and suing them because they used the word backcountry in their names. Talking about coffee shops, mom and pop small businesses etc etc. Literally anyone they could find they sued. Screw those guys.
