Hi, New listener/first time caller here-

My FFL just took delivery of my Tikka 6.5 CM CTR; still pondering optics options and will start with 143 ELDMs. When I start hand loading, I’ll probably join the H4350 crowd. In the meantime I’m wondering about using my large stock of R22 and perhaps N160. Used these with my son’s 6.5 Swede but he took his rifle back. I have 140 ABs. Anybody used R22 or N160 with their manbun?

Seems to me Re22 would be pretty slow for the Queefmore, as in you’d run out of case before you got the velocity you were looking for, but I have no experience with it. I’ve avoided that cartridge like the plague lol.

Believe me contorted muliple ways to avoid this caliber. I have a ton of 6.5 bullets; I hunt occasionally never past 400 yards, and the rest of the time plinking out to 600 yds. I didn't want to dump a Swede on my heirs as they would be forced to handload for it. I didn't need a 6.5 PRC for my stated objectives. What else could I do, as Johnny Cash's Boy named Sue would say........

H4350 for sure

I’d take the Swede and hand load all day. I have a fantastic condition Finnish SA marked M96 that is a joy to load for and shoot. I’ve often thought a 6.55x55 with a 20ish inch barrel would be a killer sweet ultralight rig. The Queefmore to me offers nothing over the 6.5 Swede.

The CM is a fantastic cartridge. It always puzzles me when people worry about the headstamp.

That said, I’ve used SuperPerformance in mine. It worked fine, but I didn’t get quite the velocity I did with H4350 and I was slightly compressed.

For a 400 yard gun I do t know that I’d worry about it if it will shoot. The 160 shows slightly faster than SuperPerformance so I would start with that one.

How does this help the OP, who has already purchased a CM?

What’s the point in a 20” Swede when a 24” cm with 40x the ammo availability would give you the same ballistics? This coming from someone who’s shot a Swede and never a CM

Mostly just the weight and I like to be different.

I’m using rl16 in my 25 creed 135 bergers, better sd’s tighter groups and less pressure signs than h4350. Really impressive, I have n555 was going to try but I’m good with rl16 for now

OP, I haven't used either of those powders in my Tikka 6.5cm, but I do use 6.5 staball with 147 eldms. It's very very accurate and seems to get good speed around Hornady's book max. N160 isn't that much slower on the chart than 6.5sb, so maybe it would work.

Are you shooting 143eldX or 140/147 eldM? There's no 143eldM

I actually don't have either Hornady bullet. I was referring to starting out with some Hornady factory ammo. Either 143 eldX or 140/147 eldM. Just to get shooting. Was thinking of focusing on pressure ladder for my 40 ABs

Here's the 6.5cm VV load data page. They show 140AB but no n160 load for it. There are other 140gr loads with that powder though to give you an idea of where you could start.
