Quitting Alcohol

I strongly believe that there are huge potential benefits to cannabinoids and psychedelics when used properly, under supervision, and in the right setting.
The body of research on the curative effect of a single dose of psilocybin in curing depression and PTSD is amazing.

That being said, I won't touch them with a 10 foot pole, because even when legal at a state level, they're still illegal at the federal level. This is a problem for me, because my livelihood depends on my holding a federal DEA license, which could be revoiked if I break any federal drug laws. And my gun ownership rights are also in jeopardy if I were to have a run in with federal drug laws.

I think the risk is miniscule, but the consequences are huge. I wouldn't advise anyone who values his gun rights to discuss drug use on a public form.

Hopefully someday federal laws will come out of the stone age, and further research will be done on how to use these powerful gifts from nature to help people in need.

Ok , weed is the only thing that made it possible for me to quit alcohol, back in the 80-90,s .
Is weed for everyone? No , but if it works for you , BRAVO 🙌.
Whatever it takes , whatever works. IMO

I quit drinking almost a decade ago. I wasn't a very heavy drinker, but drank too much IMO.

I'd love to try edibles based on hearing about good results with chronic pain, as I have had some serious injuries in the past, but am a federal employee and, like you, there's no way I'm going to take the chance.

For reference when I say "serious injuries" I'm in the basket after my belay screwed up a knot pass and dropped me about 50 feet:

Woke up this morning after only two beers last night, horrible night sleep. It's my time to quit also. It destroys my sleep and gym sessions. Well.... day 1 here we go.
Awesome man. When your animal brain tries to convince you of all the reasons it’s ok for you it’s good to repeat “I’ll never drink again and I’ll never change my mind.”

If you ever need to talk feel free to PM. It’s a journey.

Appreciate it man. Thanks!

That's why you only buy and talk about farm bill approved products that are federally legal.

It took me a few of those to really see the light. I had a goal to quit for a month, I felt so good that turned into 6 months without even thinking about it. I was on a vacation last summer, it was tropical and awesome and the ocean was nice so I figured since I was on vacation, some booze was in order....

poor choice. I over did it almost instantly, the next day I couldn't even get out of bed until 10-11am, felt like shit all day, missed my morning surf session and basically lost a full day of my short vacation. For me, it was eye opening....like, Why??? why on earth did I do that.

In the end it was good because it made me realize how much better it really is to not be hungover. I don't know that I really had a serious drinking problem but I certainly had fallen into a habit of overdoing it on the weekends. For a long time, I had a job where we were fairly isolated so when the weekends came around, we would just drink lots of beers. For whatever reason it just became a habit for me, Id be serious all week, get my workouts in then Fridays after work, I would walk my dogs, get a short recover workout in then by 5pm be having a beer or something until I decided to go to bed, Saturdays would be sort of the same thing.

After a while I realized that all week I was so excited for my days off on the weekend but Id ruin those days by overdoing it the night before. I don't know how many hung over Saturday hikes (death marches when you're HO) I suffered through while my wife was disappointed/annoyed with me.

I was never a daily drinker but like I said, I had a habit of enjoying it on the weekends which really wasn't all that enjoyable other than the action of actually drinking. Everything else that comes with it sucks.

Anyways, in 2025, I drank 99.8% less (actually tracked it) than I did the previous year and I'm feeling great, I got some medical stuff taken care of that Ive been putting off, slimmed down a bit, I really feel like II have less inflammation in general, sleep better, better attitude at work, more helpful around the house etc.

Love it man, thats awesome!

Maybe you took too much. What you’re describing isn’t a common side effect.
Pot did same to me at 18 and a small quarter gummy did at age 57. Had to find some Xannax. Thought my heart was going to jump out my chest. Some people just go hyper/manic on it. Just like some people take a handful of lortab and work like jack rabbits all day.
