If you buy one online can you immediately print it out or do you have to wait for it to come in the mail? If mail, how long does it take?

You know you can buy one here when you get here? I don't think you can print it out. You have to wait for it. Too easy to print out more than one.

Not sure how long it would take. They wouldn't be as busy as they are after the draw.

I bought an OTC tag (rifle, bull, 2nd season), and did it online. It said I would get it in 10 to 14 business days, or for $20.00, I could get it sent overnight if purchased by 1:00 pm CST. I will be out of town in the "10 to 14 days" period, so I spent the extra $20, and got it the next day.
You cannot print it online, they have to mail it to you , or as suggested, you can purchase it at one of the Offices in person (if they haven't sold out). Worth the $20 for peace of mind having it in hand, and not have it sitting at the Post Office until I get home from my trip.

They usually show up in 2 weeks. Big game can't be printed but all others can be. This is primarily due to carcass tag vs possession limits. You can also purchase online and simply have it printed at any license agent when you get here. This can help as if you have never purchased a license before they have to type all of your info in on the world's smallest keyboard and this is after you finally found someone in the store that knows how to run the machine. Try and go to a place that sells a lot of licenses as the CO system requires some experience/knowledge by the user to get things done quickly.

OTC elk tags are unlimited. They'll have them when you get here. :)

I will be staying in Chama,NM while hunting units 78 & 81, and wasn't really sure where the closest Vendor was in Colo to get mine. I went the buy it online route.

I was under the impression that there might be a limit to the amount of tags per split that were sold. With them being unlimited, it could get really crowded on the public areas.

Exactly, which is why i've never hunted an OTC unit. I was thinking about it this year, because I don't have an elk tag, but I don't think I want to do it. I have a muley buck tag for 2nd rifle. I think i'll just relax this year, and do the deer hunt only.

I'm used to solitude in my unit. I can't deal with hoards of hunters.

What is exactly to purchase the license over the counter. Just want to make sure I don't forget anything.

I'm assuming Drivers License, I will bring with my Hunters safety Education card, anything else?

Once you buy in CO once, you won't need the hunters safety card again.

Only if youve had it verified at an CPW office. If its not listed as "verified" on your license, you have to have a hunter safety card to get a another license and on your person while hunting. Verified hunter safetys will have a V after the hunter safety number on your license.

Where all can you buy licenses in person? Can you get them at Walmarts and places like that?

Usually anywhere with sporting goods. Walmart, Dicks, Sport's Authority, etc. In areas without the bigger sporting goods stores they can often be found at hardware stores and gas stations and sometimes grocery stores. If they sell a fishing lure they probably sell a license.

We buy them online every year and we have always received them in the mail within a week. Beats sitting at Wally world waiting for someone to figure out the computer

Walmart might. I never tried. Any place that sell fishing licenses will sell hunting licenses too. So, all fishing shops, sporting goods etc. City Market does too if you see one.

Drivers license and hunters safety. Once you buy in CO once, you won't need the hunters safety card again.

NOT TRUE. I had to have a HARD copy of it the 2nd year I bought one at wallyworld. Needless to say have it with you! I was lucky enough I had a digital pic of it and could get to a printer to print it off at. Photocopier would have worked to. (This was the case at the wallyworld I went to)

We buy at Walmart every year as well...and works out good to get last second sporting goods or groceries.

It's also my annual security test of my credit card...seconds after I swipe my card, my phone rings and it's credit card security saying my card was just swiped 950 miles from home...and I say it's OK (and look at every Sept statement) :)

One nice way to do it is to buy online ahead of time and then take your transaction number to a vendor and ask them to print you a copy. Then you're assured you're getting what you want, and generally less opportunity for the vendor to make a mistake.
