Questions about slider slights

Ok, I am looking to replace my 7 pin spot hogg with a 3 or 5 pin slider because my pin gaps are too wide to be as accurate as I would like to be out at longer ranges. Im thinking about a custom black gold ascent. I have never messed around with a slider so I have a few questions...

When you slide the sight down, would your anchor point have to change slightly to get a full sight picture through the peep? I know pro shooters use slider/click sights and do fine, Im just curious.

If I set my 40 or 60 yard pin as my sliding pin, could I also slide it back up to a closer distance? (i.e. slide my 60 yard pin back up to shoot, say 47 yards. Mostly for 3d shoots)

3, 4, 5 pins? what do you guys use? I was thinking about using 4 pins to get out to 50 without moving my sight and without crowding up the sight too much.

Sight guard size, 2" or 1 3/4"? My SH is 2" but I am thinking about going to a 1 3/4" and a smaller peep. Any advantages to either?

Sorry for all the questions, Any input from you guys who are using slider sights, especially the BG Ascent, would be appreciated.

I like a smaller bezel (sight ring) with three pins. I set my 30 exactly in the middle of the sight ring and then use that as my slider pin. Then really concentrate on centering the ring in the peep. This cleans up the slight anchor point change.

I will sight in 20,30, and 40 yard pins as normal. I will also make marks for all yardages using the 30 (middle) pin. If I have time I will dial, if I don't I will gap shoot. If it is further than 40 and I don't have time to dial it is a pretty good indication I should pass on the shot anyways.

Smaller peep/ bezel is more accurate at the expense of blocking more light.

I would run the small guard on the spot Hogg if you go that route. I would also make your bottom pin the one you use when sliding. Reason for this is it will have the biggest gap related to your next pin and you can keep it from being to close to your bubble giving you a wider field of view around your pin allowing you to see the animal better. I also think a small peep gathers less light and becomes tougher in low light conditions. I always recommend burning your tape from 20 to what ever your max yardage is in case you damage a pin or pins, get your slider where it needs to be and you can still shoot all ranges.

I use the BG ascent 3 pin slider set at 30, 40, 50 to cover my main hunting distances i use a 2 inch ring size. With the black gold ascent when you sight in i like to make it flat with the dial part is so that if your sight tape should ever fall off while hunting you can return it to that spot and still have those pins set at zero.

If you want your sliding pin to be able to go under what it's set at IE under 40 then when you originally get it set up leave space on the slide to do so. So instead of maxing the sight out at the top to get the most Travel possible you wil have room to dial to a lower yardage.

Good idea there. Is there any reason you chose the 2" pin guard over the 1 3/4"?

That's kind of what I imagined but I wasn't sure. Thanks.

Go with a 1 3/4" guard, use the bottom pin for your slider "easier to keep an eye on your bubble that way"...As far as anchor point, if you set your peep height looking at a target at say 20yds then your anchor will change if you step back to say 80yds to shoot....I recommend everyone setting their peep height at a middle yardage, say while aiming at a target at 40-50yds...It keeps your anchor from getting as loose at long range. You will have to tuck your head a tiny bit when the sight is all the way up at short range but makes it a lot more comfortable at long range..When I set up a long range slider sight I normally set my peep height with the pin lowered about half way down the slide and aiming around 50-60yds, but I like doing a lot of 100yd shooting when I can.

Flat w dial part?

I just maxed mine all the way "up". If my tape falls off I just scoot it all back to the top and my 3 pins are good.

I'm gonna put tiny white paint marks down the side just in case I lose my tape.

On the sliding part i make it flat with the base that it slides on and Then i sight my pins in.

Ahhhh!

Mine tops out about an 1/8th from the top bar. At my bow speed it bottoms out at 100 yards. I run put of "slide" :)
