Q&A for Minox ZP5 5-25x56mm THLR scope

Wow, that sucks. Good to know they fixed it........whatever needed fixing (did they explain that to you). How long did it take to get it back, from the time you sent it off? Ya, really sucks that it's right out of the box. I'm going to do some more testing of it at different ranges and see how much it affects the use of the reticle and the accuracy of my aiming before I try to send it off. See if I can fine tune it a little bit at distance while it's in the lead sled. If I can get them close enough, I'll probably just deal with it. Thanks for posting this.

Some guy on the YouTube has posted a YouTube video saying that if the ZP5 was released by an American manufacturer, "This would be one of the top scopes in the long range or precision long range genre of scopes ... one of the best scopes nobody knows about".

Not sure if anyone should take him seriously ... he called the distributor "Blauser" instead of "Blaser", and posted it as a short (who posts shorts??). It's also done off the back of a dirty truck bed. I even bet the guy was wearing Crocs while filming.

I installed mine last night and so far all I've done is an initial sight-in.

I had the gun set up with a Maven and the rifle went from 9lbs 10oz to 10lbs 4oz. I measured 36.8oz for the scope with the caps on it. The caps come on it from the factory.




I used UM 34MM High Rings and I was up 18 mil from the factory setting and after I slipped the turret I have 13.7 mil of elevation. That's 1210 yards for this load.

Not sure if I'll add a rail or not. I can shoot to 840 yards here and I'd have to travel as in fly to shoot farther. It seems like I would need 34mm UM LOWS if I add the rail too.

I'm still messing with the diopter and different pairs of glasses. When the barrel cools I'm going to put my shotgun shooting glasses on. I'm currently using my progressive lenses. I can see 1.5" dots clearly at 100 yards to 15x or so and then they are blurry.

Anyone else shooting yet?

Looks sick. Proportionally more “even” than my R8 in the other thread just because of foreend length. How’s the balance? I still have good balance because of the R8 professional’s chassis inside the stock.

That's an 18" .750" taperless barrel and a 30cal OG. It's still pretty "heavy" even with the deep flutes. I prefer my fluted .680 taperless barrel.

Got mine mounted. As others mentioned, this thing is huge! Turrets feel awesome. Quite a bit of resistance, definitely not going to be accidentally spun. Parallax knob is easy to adjust. Had medium 1.0” rings on a fuzion action. Will likely switch to highs. Leupold mark 4 6-24 for comparison.

I just shot 200 and 300. I need about 10x to see the half mil hold at 200 but my targets are in timber and painted "target tan" like deer so all I have to look at is a 2" and 3" white dot respectively.

I'm taking it to a wide-open open sky range on Monday morning.

I'm curious to see where blurring occurs past 300 with zoom and the parralax. I'm blurring out right now around 15x at 100-300 yards.

Mine doesn't have a date, just a signature line.

Send Minox an email with your serial number. They can tell you the date of manufacture and any service info (if it was a used scope). They were quick to respond when I contacted them.

I have about 100 rounds through mine on a 6.5cm. mostly all around 15-16x. 40 or so proofing/testing loads, and 60ish shooting rocks and steel. It's on my NRL hunter setup, in matches I mostly just set everything to 15ish and leave it. Might need to play with the diopter more, seems like parallax needs adjusting at different ranges more than other scopes I've used. Most scopes I only mess with it at 100, and set it to "6-900" for everything else. I think it might be from the glass quality, but mirage from barrel/suppressor heat seems to show up faster and more pronounced than with other scopes, that could also be from the conditions lately, it's been overcast, cold, and more humid than usual.

Liking the reticle so far. I was worried the vertical post would get in the way of spotting shots. So far I've only had it hide one, might make me scrutinize positions more to make sure they're as good as can be.

None of that should be correct- they have enormous DOF and parallax can be set at functionally 300 yards and not touched again.

What's amiss if that setting goes blurry at 15x and is totally blurred out at 25x but the reticle is still clear?

I still need to try my old glasses when I get back home. I switched to progressives a month ago or so.

Progressives can mess with using scopes, especially if you don't have high rings / an upright head position, as your eye can be looking up through the wrong part of the lens.

FWIW, Jacob from Rifles Only teaches to not use corrective lenses when shooting - his take is that there's a diopter right in front of you. Even if you don't want to shoot without glasses, you could try taking them off, getting the diopter dialed in for your eye, and then see how it looks - there's a chance it will clear up / the issues will go away. Not guaranteed, but one way to see if it wasn't the scope but more your glasses and head position.

I'll screw around with it in a few hours.

The sensation I have now at low power is that if I could dial the parralax a little below 50 everything would clear up.

But then you crank it up past 20x and it's like going under water.

I was assuming this would work itself out when I look at 800 yard stuff on Monday but it sounds like something is up.
