It looks like, relative to the control, the OG 6.5 out performs the Raptor 8. If so, that is pretty impressive and has me rethinking what will replace my Scythe.

It does almost across the board. The Raptor 8 is a very good can, however a part of people reaction to it is that it does sound different than the normal Ti cans. It’s good at suppression, but not really different than others.

@Formidilosus

Thanks for doing these. Great resource, just like the scope tests.

I think the Raptor, and likely the OG, are cases where they end up being more than the sum of the parts. You can quantify dB and even recoil impulses. But on some of these cans there are extra benefits that you notice when shooting them, and you can’t easily record it or quantify it. I’ve had a Raptor 8 stack with a 3” reflex for about 3 years now. I’ve been around and shot a lot of other rifle cans at the range, and haven’t yet seen one that made me want to replace it.

?

So does not using a reflex on every muzzle forward can sell it short?
Depends on how one wants to look at it.

The Raptor is shipped with a reflex, making it arguably part of the product rather than just an aftermarket accessory.

Not using a Rokstok on any rifle sells it short, but not using a Rokstok on the MRC Marshall is stripping away one of its selling points.

That said, the reflex is more complicated than the above example as it comes in varying volumes and adds 6 ounces. So a Raptor with a reflex is pretty much a different can than with the flush mount.

What happens to those numbers when the reflex is used ?
My reason for asking is inexperience and ignorance, followed by comments like @ElPollo . On the two former adjectives, a primary appeal on paper to the Raptor is the included reflex attachment. Without it, it may gets lost in the mix of many others, but perhaps with the reflex it separates itself.

It would be neat to see it shot head to head against itself in both configurations.

That’s just because you can’t get the reflex by itself anymore. You used to be able to just get the can.

Hey, the standard should be reflexed cans from where I sit. But the statement that the Raptor without the reflex is selling it short- that’s not reallly logical. I’m not disagreeing that the AB 8 or 10 with reflex is a very good can. But with those reflexes, they’re kind of in a different category from about everything else in size, bulk and weight.

Without getting into the semantics of whether it is an essential part of the Raptor system, I would love to see how the 8 w/ 3” reflex tests (and the 10 w/ 5” reflex).

Then do your reviews of the Marshall without the rockstock. Hey, not really a big part of it right?
