I have my dad's Gamemaster 760 in -06. He bought it mail order around 1962 for 35 bucks I think. He picked peaches all summer to save for it. It has the corn cob fore end. He killed dozens of deer with it. It's old, shows a lot of wear and the barrel is pitted. I used it to kill my Yukon moose in 2024. I hand loaded 200 grain Accubonds for the moose trip and got sub 1 inch groups at 100 yards. Before this the best I could get was about a 3 inch group with green box Core-Lokt in 150 grain, which is about the only ammo my dad ever used. I don't know how often or if he ever cleaned it. I absolutely love this gun and will never sell or trade it. It was never meant to be a precision or long range rifle, so don't expect it to be. I sent the trigger to be re-worked and now it breaks at 3.5# which is fine fir me. Basically the same trigger that is in 1100 shotguns. If I could find one in .257 Roberts I'd mortgage my house to get it. There are aftermarket 10 round mags for it, I have a few. They are cheaply made and I only use the factory steel mags. I have a vari-X 3 2.5X8 Leupold on it. If I was to hunt from a stand and was looking at distances 100 yards or under, this is the gun I would use above all the others in the safe. Get one, you will not regret it.

The hype around pump rifles where I am in New England is like no other. I have one and adore it. It’s twice my age, beat, battered and put away wet. It balances extremely well in the hand and carries like a dream. No sling needed. It doesn’t feel heavy to me in any sense, but my BAR makes most guns feel light, so take that for what it is. The complaints about accuracy should be taken with a grain of salt as well. For example, my gun shoots much tighter groups with 165gr Barnes than it does with 168gr TMK’s or even AMAX’s. Granted, there’s a .040 difference in distance to the lands between the two. I’m in the process of load development as we speak removing these variables.

Long story short, they’re good, dependable guns highly touted by people who spend all month tracking deer miles in the snow. Guns are like golf clubs, specific occasions call for specific tools.

Been blasting deer with my dutchie machine gun for a long time.

Super reliable and deadly gun and anyone that says otherwise, isn't to be trusted....

Mine shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards. So what. lol

My old man has been shooting one since the late 60's. No telling how many bambis lost their lives to that gun. Its also a good shooter. Both guns like 180- grain bullets.

So as a Pennsylvania native the Mennonite Machine Gun or the Amish Automatic (aka the 760/7600) was the bread and butter of our hunting camp when I was growing up. Everybody had and used one primarily in 30-06 with the occasional .270 Win. My grandfather used a 760 in 30-06 from the 70’s on and killed scores of deer with it, I shot my first buck using that same rifle just a couple years after he passed. Dad hunted with his as his primary deer rifle from the mid 80’s until just the past few years when I got him into hunting with a suppressor.

I primarily run bolt guns now after gravitating to the Model 70 but my Dad and brother both sent a 7600 out to get rebarreled for use with suppressors. The new match barrels shoot under an inch but even before that it was a 1.5” or better gun. If they hadn’t gotten so damn expensive I‘d have been tempted to buy one and send it off myself for a driving gun.

@Halligan Im thinkin everyone here claiming 1-moa needs to take the 10-round 7600 challenge. Mine wont be pretty, but Im in.

Have you had an issue with a 7600? Ive never seen a 7600 fail to feed or fire. The semiautos, yes—but that’s a totally different animal.

Shot terribly. No ergonomics at all. Useless in any supported position. Can’t use sling for support and take advantage of follow-up shot ability. Just smoking garbage.

It’s a miracle I killed the buck with it in one shot. The doe took four bad hits before I killed her. When I made the owner shoot it at a target, the thing shot an 8” 5-shot group at 100 yards. It just so happened that the first shot on the buck was in the middle of that circle. They are built for spraying and praying offhand, not anything precise. Totally defeats the point of having a center fire rifle.

If your experience differs… then your experience differs.

C'mon now, you had a bad barrel or ammo that the barrel didn't like. Ive owned a dozen 760 and 7600. All shot within 2 moa. The 2 I kept will shoot at or under 1 moa.

@Macintosh phenomenal idea, I’d be curious too for those who hand load to see what they can get with tailored loads as well. Because if we’re honest (and maybe I’m just speaking for myself), I think most have never met someone who bothered loading for one of these.

Frankly, if we just demonstrate 10-shot 1.5 moa, that’s a win unto itself lol
