Another North Island Public Land Ruahine Ranges.

Managed to score a few nights away in the hills and decided to hit a spot that I've wanted to get to in since forever, and it sure didn't disappoint.

Was an epic couple of nights tenting away in the Hills
Took the new pack along and Holly dam the exo k4 is something crazy, it sure puts my osprey to shame the guys make a wicked pack,
Have never come out of a big walk feeling so good especially after I smoked my back racing Stockcars.

Went in hopeful to find some big Stags that are known to be in the area.
I saw 20 odd hinds, yearlings & and fawns, but no luck on the stags,
Spending a lot of time behind the glass both Spotter and Binos looking in all the nooks and crannies I could find. covered a much larger area than I was planning on.
The wind played havoc and was blowing its tits off at times, the 1st night it kept waking me up even tho I was very sheltered as it blew over top it would shake the tent and sounds like waves crashing.

Stunning country, and my 1st time in the Maungamahue High Point area.
39°52'36.75"S
176° 3'47.73"E

Found a freshwater spring on the walk-in & nice deep tarn to drink from. (we are lucky can just drink most of our mountain water) and needed it with the heat and my lack of fitness. The going was tough in the sun and 28 degrees C 82F and no shade.

Had a cool moment one morning watching 4 deer playing around chasing each other for about 15 minutes. Sure makes the early mornings watching animals.

I can't wait to get back up in there and push further into the new country,

Cheers

Life has a funny way of getting in the way of things we really want sometimes, I find. I hope you can return for a longer trip soon!
