Then why do they work so well when torqued to 80# and not whatever the hell Tikka torques them to?

Tikka knows exactly how tight a barrel should be, and if it gives some weekend warrior gunsmith fits, well that’s a real shame

With young kids at home right now I am definitely a weekend warrior and it does cause some cuss words during removal. I stand by my statement. No barrel needs to be that tight or that locked into place with thread locker.

This is a great thread, thanks all. I just removed my first tikka barrel using a viper vise and a wheeler #1 action wrench. I did the barrel down kroil soak for 5 days and used a 4’ cheater bar. Aside from barrel spinning on the first 2 attempts, no issues.

My first one came off no problem. It was t3x SS lite with bead blast finish. I used viper 4 lug vice and index cards. I heated and sprayed kroil in the threads one time every afternoon for three afternoons. Just a 10 second hit with the propane torch. On the third day popped it off with wheeler external no issue. Today,I got my ass handed to me on a roughtech cerekote. The cerekote was so slick it wouldn't grip. I won but I scoffed up the stock barrel cerekote and put a little scratch in my action. Good thing my rifle is a tool and not a beauty queen.
