PSA for anyone considering a move to Bozeman or who doesn’t believe it when long time residents say it sucks

My wife and I wanted to move there a long time to get her in the same town as her mom and sister. I tried everything to get a job there but no such luck. Not a ton of oil and gas there and no one wanted to hire someone with that experience. We gave up on that dream due to that and how expensive things are there….without a job. Ha. I still love going there. I just were my cowboy boots that I actually wear and enjoy watching the “LA” folk look at how dirty they are.

I went to college in Bozeman and wore some waders out one night. Granted, it was for a onesie party. I didnt dance on any bar tops though.

Bozeman does suck tho, but not necessarily for this reason. Its a college town, what do you expect? Im sure theres been far worse, outlandish things done .

And in 30 years the kids in that video will be bitch’n about how it’s not the “same Bozeman” we went to. Your great grandparents hated your grandparents generation so I guess it’s our turn but man I’m sick of all the complaining
Exactly.

I love living in the town I live in.

But I don't love every business in it. So I just don't go to the ones that don't offer what I'm looking for.

I actually enjoy having people around who aren't just like me.

Maybe they should make a TV show about rich Californians moving into Montana and the old school Montana people trying to keep their state the same. Maybe put the setting down in the southwest corner of the state or something.......

As long as there were attractive women there, nothing else really mattered. My bar philosophy in the wonderful 90s. Looks like kids having a great time.

The funny thing about Bozeman is it's always been a cow pasture. It really has never been anything, my family owned a business for 23 years here in the 1990's. The state was cool before the movie in 1993, NO ONE lived here but the grizzlies. Now there are even more grizzlies and it's become a conservative sanctuary state unless you live in the two college cities like Bozeman. Many states in the Rocky Mountain states have these towns and cities, we hippies have to live somewhere, haha.

Your math seems sketchy.

It was an enjoyable place in the 70s. It was starting to suck in the 90s. Now it sucks and is too expensive to make believe you will like it.

Here’s a hint. Bozeman Montana has had 6 month winters and grumpy people for as long as it’s been a city. It’s never been considered a nice place to live by really anybody.

If Bozeman sucks, Sparta Michigan is hell because I go to Bozeman for vacation and love it. And I'm a 55 year old guy that likes Hang Williams Junior and Cheap Trick......I wonder what people used to say about my curly mullet, leather jacket and pack of smokes when I was 16 years old.......fun times. Now I'm all gray, wear Levi jeans with a flannel shirt most places and certainly don't smoke anymore.

Going to Bozeman next week to see my son and do some bear hunting. He's in law enforcement out there. Poor guy went skiing in Helena last week when it was 60 degrees outside. Next week he's going bear hunting. This fall we will go elk hunting together. Yea - it's a terrible place to be. Run for your lives!!

There is definitely imported money in that town and all sorts of people from all sorts of places. But I do love the town and the area. I can definitely see how people would miss the Bozeman I visited back in 1989 to go Mule Deer hunting. Definitely a lot has changed and I do love small towns where most people know each other. But things change. The small town I grew up in here in Michigan is no longer the same either. I graduated with a class of 200 people. Today it graduates 2000 people. I almost never see people in town that I know anymore. When I retire I think I'll move to a place like Anaconda Montana. Still small but beautiful. And eventually - it will change too.....

In the 90s MSU is where the cowboys and farmers went to school. It was a great town. Now it is the LA of Montana.

Bozeman is the LA of Montana, the change since the early 80's is nutz, and cowboys and farmers still go to school here in very large numbers. By the '90s the turn was well on its way.

I'm about as gullible as a person can be, guilty: but there ain't no way that video isn't staged and whoever did it is my hero. I don't do Insta-whatever, but get texts from those that do with Hipsters of Bozeman and one or two other creators that are AWESOME lampooning "the new west", Bozeman culture, the new Yellowstone wannabees glad that the old River Runs Through It crowd is dying out.

Yall sounding like old farts.

If you were 21 again, and some chick's wanted to go out somewhere for the evening, yall would follow.

Probably wear a flatbrim too.
Going with friends just to blow of steam or check it out sure....get pulled along like a puppy dog by some chick's absolutely not.

Not sure I would agree with the part of the original post about the girl needing to put on more clothes though. That is literally standard street attire.
There are a lot of reasons to dislike what Bozeman has become, but this isn't one. It's a college town, with college bars. I'd rather get a root canal than go to the Mixers or the R Bar on a Saturday night now, but when I was 19-22 it was a lot of fun.

If these people dancing on a table upset you, you would be appalled to see what used to go on at the Buffalo Jump...
The ole' Buffalo Jump. Class at it's finest. Brought a buddy there as basically a joke...He was shell shocked. I'd been to a few BYOB/Cooler establishments so for me it was high dollar hahaha
