Looking to pick up a new rifle for this season, curious in everyone's thoughts on the best caliber to use. Looking to use this for pronghorn and possibly elk, so looking for something pretty versatile.

I would look at the 6.5PRC or the 6.5x284 to run high BC bullets fast to help with wind for pronghorn. I have a 6.5x284 and have killed 2 antelope, multiple deer species (Mule, Whitetail, Blacktail), caribou, and elk with it. But specifically to your Antelope question....think about the wind if you are shooting more than 200 yards.

Thanks for the advice, heading up to Wyoming this season it can be very windy up there.

There are a ton of right answers and few wrong ones. If I was shopping right now I would probably take a hard look at the 28 Nosler. For the average hunter, a 7mm-08, .308, 30-06, .270, would be 4 of the better options to shop for.

Since elk is on the menu but pronghorn is the main course, I would start with the 6.5mm and go up.

Since your main focus in pronghorn, I would go 6.5 PRC (or similar) for the long range ballistics. Recoil is manageable and it is elk-capable.

If you think elk will become more of a focus, then 280 AI or 7mm Rem.

25-06 is about perfect for antelope IMO. Bang flopped a couple with mine. Lots of deer, hogs, and coyotes with 115 NBT and 117 Sierras.
270 with a 130 TTSX is my do everything rifle.

I'm also a one rifle guy. 300 WSM puts big holes in antelope but puts them down. All of the calibers mentioned are great for antelope, just make sure enough umphhh for elk. 270 or higher for elk in opinion.
