Problems with KUIU

Just want to vent, and share my recent experience with Kuiu's customer service representatives. On March 30th I place an order for a guide jacket and a 210 merino shirt both in vias. Both items were backordered, so obviously my card would not be charged until the items shipped. I received a kuiu gift card for Christmas, and had planned on using that to cover some of the costs.

Last week (4/27) I decided that I no longer needed th 210 merino, and called to cancel the order. I spoke with one of the representatives and was assured that my order had been updated and only included the guide jacket.

Fast forward to May 5th. I got an email from Kuiu saying that one of my items was currently backordered (guide jacket). I thought this was kind of odd considering it had been backordered the entire time, so I called Kuiu. Apparently, they never cancelled the order for the 210 merino, and it was being processed for shipping at that time. I told the representative that I had called to cancel the order the week before, but she couldn't find any notes regarding the cancellation on my account. After a good 15 minute conversation I managed to get the order cancelled.

Now, the issue that I'm having is with the gift card/credit that I had on my account. $89 of the $100 gift card was used to pay for the merino that should have been cancelled. That $89 was credited to my account, but since it is a "new" credit, it cannot be applied to any existing orders! So basically I have $89 sitting out there that can't even be used to pay for a order that likely won't ship for another month or two.

I have two options. Pay the 189-11(credit not used for the cancelled merino), or cancel my order and place another order for the same item. Only problem with that is I'd get pushed to the back of the line.....again. Now I know this isn't a huge deal, but they are the ones that f*cked it up, not me. I don't understand how they can punish me for their mistakes.

On a side note, if anyone has contact information for any of the higher ups at Kuiu please PM me so I can speak with someone that will actually understand why I'm having an issue with this.

Sounds typical KUIU issues. I don't even want to share mine. But I work with Anthony, and he's been really great help. Give him a try.

love their jacket and pants and other outerwear. But ordering is often a bi%ch. only way i can make it work is know exactly what i want. then place an order plenty in advance. works for me, but i understand the pain in the butt of having to wait forever.

That sucks. I've never owned any KUIU gear. Heard good things about the actual pieces but your CS story sounds pretty common. Bad CS alone is enough for me to steer clear. Hope you get it worked out.

I like my Kuiu gear but, the business plan of eliminating the distributor/retailer is where most of these problems come from. The retailer is the buffer zone between the customer and the manufacturer. These types of problems are common when dealing manufacturers on a wholesale level.

I'm just blown away by these reports. I've probably placed 15+ orders since they started and have never had a single issue. Always nice, always work with me, always have what I want in stock for the most part. (Granted I buy my gear Dec-March and don't wait until August to load up.)

I'd be annoyed as all get out if that happened to me too, I just can't believe it is such a night and day difference between my experiences and others.

I feel the same way. I have never had an issue with them. I am glad too because I love their clothing. If they did that to me though I would be pissed. I would call back and talk to someone in charge because that is BS.

I guess it's really not a public open forum. to bad I have been buying the stuff for a long time. I will be having a lot for sale up in the classifieds soon. I agree with the first lite comments, I can't remember ever hearing anything negative about them.

What size guide do you need? I have a medium that is like new!

I really wish that they didn't make such nice gear because I really don't like dealing with the wait times.

I've never had any issues with them until now. This little "problem" really isn't that big of a deal, but it just shows that they do NOT put the customer first. It shouldn't matter when the gift card is added to the account as long as the items are backordered and haven't been paid for. I really hope they are able to work with me on this, but if they don't I will be moving my way up through the ranks until this gets solved. May even have to contact the BBB. Not allowing customers to purchase items with company issued in-store credit is a no no.

We need to remember that they are a small business trying to make it in a tough market.....:rolleyes:

I ordered a 3XL hoping that it won't be too big. The XL is like fat guy in a little coat (minus the fat part), and I think the XXL would be perfect without any other layers on.

Just don't say anything about the frame on the pack that breaks and the tent that got pulled off the market because of major failures. The threads that were deleted were about comparing a SG to a Icon and flood of people all recommended a SG.

That sounds like me with Elite Archery.. Everybody loves them to death but they jerked me around and treated me like crap so I tell everyone I know to go with a different company
