Problem with tikka's or me

I've been buying up rifles lately. Picked up a wood stock t3 in 308 to turn into a light mountain gun

And a 30-06 t3 just because.

Tikka claims the twist on each to be 1:11

The 308 is 1:11 5/8
The 30-06 is 1:11 7/8

Ive been trying like he'll to get a mono to shoot in the 308. It shoots 178 a max with 43.7gr of target well.
I first tried the 168 ttsx and the 165 gmx and can't get either to shoot. They suck shit.

Then i tried the 150 etip with Barger and at first they seemed promising. But lacked any discernable consistency. Would have a good cluster and itd all fall to shit.

I'm letting the barrel cool off pretty good between shots, but keeping it warm.

Ive been loading for around 15 years and Never had trouble like this.

At this point I feel like I'm pissing away money

But don't want to hunt with lead.

I have a tikka t3x 30-06. I wanted to shoot copper, went down the path, experienced the same inconsistency. I never measured the twist myself, but I ended up putting a proof prefit 1:10 and have had no more issues.

You could try 150gr TSX. I’ve had better luck with 150gr monos and 150-165gr lead from my t3 30-06. Currently using superformance 150 copper (not making them anymore) and 150gr superformance lead out of state where I can shoot lead. They shoot about the same for me.

Try the 130 TTSX?
seat them deeper?
make sure the action is tightened down correctly on the recoil lug?

Different caliber but I have no issues with the 145LRX in a stock 7-08 tikka, have you ran a twist rate calculator on your situation to make sure you are able to stabilize them? Tikka is weird in that 6.5cal has a decent twist rate of 1:8 and then 6mm is 1:10 if I recall right. No clue but I'll roast the barrel on the 243win I have with other bullets and the kids then slap a new one on down the road.

I found my Tikka 30-06 doesn’t care for either the 168 TTSX or it’s twin the 175 LRX. Both have identical forms (LRX has a 7 gr longer boattail), and neither were terribly consistent for some reason.

The regular 180 TSX shoots fantastic for me, so other options in the Barnes line worked fine. If you have to shoot copper, I’d try another Barnes with a completely different shape. The 165 has a different form than the 168 and might play with your throat a little better.

300wsm I just picked up shots 168 TTSX consistently under .8. First load I tried and repeated tested proved it’s been consistent.

I checked and retorqued the action to 40inlbs

I tried the 150 thinking the decreased bearing surface may help. But it's still pretty long.

I'm not confident the 130 would check the elk block very well.

I pulled the trigger on a kimber hunter pro in 308 about an hour ago.

Figured what the hell.

The tikka shoots, but doesn't seem to agree on the bullet I want.

I’d try the 130’s to see if they shoot. You will get great velocity and expansion with them them out of a 308. In terms of penetration and killing ability....I have seen a 130gr ttsx (shout out of a 270) go through two wild pigs stacked up. Tipped them both over where they stood, going through the shoulders/vitals of both. Nearly 36” of animal and the bullet exited the second pig. This was at only about 50 yards but I’m sold on going light for caliber with copper bullets. A Barnes tech I spoke to
last year confirmed this, suggesting I try 110gr TTSX for my 270.

I might go ahead and try the 130

Not sure how different the 130 in a 308 would do compared to the 270.

The 270 sd is a good bit higher.

I killed a 5x5 last year with a 130 etip from a 270.

The berger twist calculator said the 165/168 is very marginal
And the 150 was a good bit better. But the shits don't shoot

Every Barnes I’ve ever used has been seated to the very front of the first driving band.

Curious what you fellas and 168 TTSX are doing. I’m planning to shoot those in my ‘06 Tikka.
