Priming Tool Comparison

I have loaded 10's of thousands of rounds with a hand primer.

I don't care to or want to measure primers or primer depths. I have been down that road already. I want to seat them to the bottom of the pocket.

A micrometer is really not useful for that, or at least I dont see how it is unless you know the depth of pocket and the height of your primer are the same every round. I don't want to know that either. I just want the primer to bottom out in the pocket.

You can feel that with a hand primer. I don't know if the press has the feel or not. I may order one of these and play with it.
I have a Frankfort arsenal hand primer that lasts you set the depth. it works great.

I'm very interested in the derraco priming system, curious if everyone's ordered directly from Derraco in Australia, or has anyone ordered from ugly reloading which appears to be their US distributor. Looks like it's much more expensive through the US distributor (USD199) than direct (AUD230 = ~USD148), but maybe shipping evens out the price?

They are on Amazon. But I did order the case from ugly reloading and the transaction was fine.

Iv been very impressed with the pcps

Well, I shouldn’t have looked at this thread. Didn’t know a PCPS Lite was available, and especially not at that price. Mine will be here tomorrow. 😁

Have y'all been swapping the Derraco Lite between L and S primers?

My first impression is its cheap enough to have 2 set up for each size.

Seems like a lot of effing around to switch back and forth.

Can anyone think of a reason why my pcps lite primes LRP's like butter but does SRP's crooked ? Using the lee shell holders

Man my Lyman hand primer did the same thing. Large rifle primers were great but I couldn’t get it to seat SRP at all… recently bought a Frankford arsenal and it has been flawless

The lyman is an absolute POS and the reason I bought the pcps

I've come to the conclusion that it's not an issue with the pcps, but rather my hornady brass. About 1 in 5 has the primer go in crooked. The rest go in fine. Looks like the bad pieces of brass have a burr in the primer pocket

Is your brass crimped? Hornady does a full circumferential crimp on some of their brass that dosnt quite look like a crimp but needs to be removed before priming.
