Starting to think about getting a new rifle in 6cm. Going to build off a tikka action. Just want everyone’s take on preferred vs. Lilja. I don’t think I can go wrong but let me know what your experience is.

Preferred is a fantastic barrel. Everyone I had shoots. To the extent you get a better Lilja barrel, which I won’t argue, I doubt the average or even decent shooter could shoot the difference.

Lilja is arguably one of the agreed premium barrel makers.

Buy either with confidence.

I am biased, cause I have a preorder going on that can save you money if I have a barrel you want. All that extra money is great for buying ammo to shoot.

Check out www.lswild.com if you want.

Man I don't know, it says you're from Montana you better stick with a Montana made barrel. I've watched that Yellowstone show a few times I'd be worried about one of your fellow residents finding out I bought a barrel out of state and taking you to the train station. :)

I haven't used a Lilja on a build in probably 10+ years but I have five of them on different rifles and they all shoot as well as any of my others.

Until you mentioned them I'd never heard of Preferred barrel company but that doesn't mean they don't make a good barrel.

Heck, up until a year and a half ago I'd never heard of ACE Barrels either and their shop is only about ten minutes from me.

I’m a Lilja fan, but admittedly know nothing about Preferred.

I live about a mile and a half from the Lilja shop, several of my boys’ friends have worked there over the years spinning barrels and I have one of their barrels. I was talking with our local gunsmith a few weeks ago and he said they started carbon wrapping barrels. I have not seen one of their carbon barrels yet.

They are a good company. Lilja has always been good about hiring local kids, teaching them some of the tricks of the trade, paying them pretty well, and most importantly, giving them barrels for free (or with a hefty discount). I know many, many people that shoot their barrels with confidence.

Several of them on the line in our 1000 Yd Benrest club, and they kick ass !! I have them in 7 and 30 caliber, 3 groove, hunting rifles, and they are fast and accurate !

Ha I’m sure I know you. I worked for Lilja for a summer as well. Great family and great barrels. I’ve got one as well.

My Lilja’s have always been very nice. I prefer cut rifling in general though. I’m not sure Lilja is available at some of the barrel vendors like bugholes. Too easy these days to point/click for a Bartlein or Krieger etc.
