Preferred carbon VS. Proof carbon

Got a new slolus lightweight action that I now need a barrel for. I really wanna get the 50/50 nickel plated carbon and classic carbon barrel from Preferred, mainly because it looks bad ass. I’ve only had experience with Proof and BSF. Love my proof barrel but curious to see if Preferred is just as good. Any experiences, bad, good??

I’ve only had one Preferred Carbon so far (300 PRC) and it’s been a shooter from the start. I have a couple of proofs as well and they’ve shot great also.

I went preferred on this rifle since I found a good deal on a Kelbly barreled action. Glad I did!

Such a good looking barrel. Being a 300prc I’m sure you’re not doing many long shot strings with it, but how does it seem to hold up to being hot? My proof barrel holds tight groups when hot but my BSF barrel would start to walk a bit

I’d never buy a carbon wrapped barrel but if I was going to, I wouldn’t even consider anything other than proof.

I’ll shoot 5 shot groups with it relatively quickly and it will still hold pretty tight groups.

Here’s two quick 5 rounds groups out of my 300 PRC (preferred carbon). Random load with H1000 and 208 ELDM to break in the barrel. Barrel and suppressor were definitely warm at the end of the strings.

I didn’t care to walk to the steel at the range tonight but it was stacking a nice cluster at 300.

Hell yea looks like it’s a shooter! I think I’m definitely gonna give the Preferred a try. Just gotta save up my pennies 😬

Why is that? Have you had bad experiences with other brands?
Carbon is a $300 upcharge at PBB. That upcharge would cover most of the cost of a stainless blank from ACE or Benchmark that I'd bet on being better quality with no upside to the carbon other than one may like the aesthetics.

I get it. I personally don’t have any carbon barrels and don’t really need any. I was just curious why he would only entertain proof.

No, I just think they are sort of a waste of money. They aren’t lighter, they aren’t more accurate. I do like the proof research rifles though.
It definitely comes down to aesthetics more than anything. However, they are much lighter weight, UNLESS you have a heavily fluted steel barrel, which are as equally bad ass! Or I guess maybe a little pencil steel barrel may weigh the same.
