I’m reloading for a 300 WM with the following:

Hornady 212 ELD-X, Fed GM215M primers, 76.2 gr H1000, and yielding ES 5 with a velocity of 2870. Accuracy has been decent, 3/4 MOA or so.

7mm Rem Mag:
H-1000
Retumbo
IMR 7828 ssc

6.5 CM:
H4350

I've never needed to use anything else. I bought a fair amount when the rifles were chosen and I should have plenty enough to carry me through this current shortage.

.280 Rem - Don't know yet. Just starting to hand load for it. As I cant find new powders to save my life I am gonna start with IMR 4350 (I have RL-15, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and IMR 4350). Gonna watch this thread.

Switched from IMR 8208 XBR and Varget to IMR 4166 for my 7mm-08 and it's working well. Bought every can of 4166 the local shop had, so I'm set for a while.

Tried 4451 from my '06 and it was terribly slow.

However I'm probably going to swing by and buy up another 4-5 lbs. of whatever powder that I can use, just because they have it and just because I have no idea how long this shortage is going to last.

Bluetick78 - For the .280, the wife bought me 150 grain Sciroccos for Christmas (without help, I think). I've got 150 grain GMX's as well. I have a bunch of box ammo in 140 grain, so I was hoping to develop a lead and mono round in the 150 grain range. I'd like to include some 160 grain Accubonds at some point, but they don't exist anymore!

Never loaded the Scirocco, so not much help there. With the GMX and 160 Accubond, RL 22 or 19 should be great; IMR 4831 has always been consistent for me too with heavier weight bullets in a 280. 56.2 grains of RL22 with a 160 Partition has been a good load for me, should work with an Accubond as well. That load is right on the edge of flattening primers, so don't start there, I started around 53 grs. I've found Noslers load data to be extremely conservative.

How were the speeds with IMR4831 in the 280? I saw some available today and almost ordered but didn’t. Wasn’t sure if it was a good alternative to H4831sc in my 280ai.

The load density isn't super high, but I got great consistency with it. 2925-2950 with 150 Ballistic Tips and Partitions wasn't a problem. Usually SD around 9-14, not YouTube worthy, but definitely good enough to punch years worth of big game tags with. That's out of a mid-eighties Remington mountain rifle with a 22" tube. My newer rifle with a 24" tube clocked the ballistic Tips at 2980.

IMR4831 is my “backup” powder for the .280. I shoot 168s and it gets good speed and accuracy. RL26 is a touch better and I have mostly switched to that. It works fine and my longest deer I have taken was with the 280/IMR load at 780 yards.

Is the 6.5x55 a modern rifle/load? If so, what velocity do you get? I just picked up a Tikka 6.5x55 and would like something faster than the factory loads that are lower velocity for the old mausers.

It is a Tikka T3 in 6.5 x 55. So, modern action. I stopped at .5 grains over Nosler book (Disclaimer -- I'm not advocating for, or endorsing any over book hand-loading) with 130 grain Accubonds as my groups were the best I have ever shot, in any gun. Magnetospeed Sporter Velocity averaged just over 2580 FPS. A little slow, for sure. But, it is so accurate that I am not going to push it. Pretty sure it is just a slow-ish barrel. That gun is a Whitetail and Mule Deer gun, and won't be shot in the field past 300 yards, likely, with that load. The 140 grain partitions are faster (2680+) at Nosler book max charge. The partitions are also incredibly accurate (no greater than .75").

If I cared to push it I bet I could exceed the Nosler data, easy, with some more concerted load development. I just don't care to at the moment. I really enjoy shooting that gun, though. So, good call.

I've been patiently waiting for Nosler, Berger, Hornady, or any bullet manufacturer to release some loading data for RL26 in the .280, but I'm guessing it's pretty low on the priority list for them. What bullet/powder charge/primer combo are you using?....If you don't mind me asking.

Would you mind giving up your .270 load? Bullet and grains? I'm using imr4350 as well with 130 BT's. I get ok results. I'm trying to figure out if it's my load, the gun, or ME.

BlueTick, I am shooting 280 Rem not the improved version. I am loading 160 - 168 grain bullets, R-P brass and GM210m primers. I worked carefully from 56 grains to 60 grains of RL26 with the 168 Accubond LR. I settled on 57.5 grains, .060” off the lands. It gives me 2850fps with single digit ES and accuracy has been amazing. I have also loaded 57 grains under the Sierra 160 BTSP and the Hornady 162 ELD-x .040 off the lands with good results as well.
Everything I load with RL26 shoots amazing and usually with extremely low ES.

Perfect, thanks for the info. I've been trying to figure out where to start with a 168 Berger load, I think I just found it!
