I’m looking for a pair of Vortex binos and got this PM. I replied being a little Leary bc never purchased of rokslide (but hope to) and thought I’d share the experience. Experienced purchasers, I’d love your feedback and maybe do’s/don’ts and maybe this is saves someone else.

Regardless if a scam or not, how this ended the transaction most certainly will not be going through.

User is Damo_Elk

Replied to inquiry of availability to another thread in PM.
- I respond to his text (guessing he didnt wanted this public facing”
- had read almost exact messages like this being scams thanks to users here
- little suspicious bc new user, no post, etc but I’m naturally Leary when sending $1K to anyone I don’t know or is not a business
- reply’s about a Binocular transaction referencing as “Scope”. Flag there
- Zelle preferred bc “it’s always how these forums do business” but as far as I can reference he’s never posted this product or anything else
- he’s going to send me his wife’s Zelle account?! WTF? Flags going off everywhere
- I respond with not being comfortable with Zelle, PayPal goods and services with protection and request a FaceTime with him and the Binoculars
- person goes apeshit and the text get entertaining from there.

Right call or wrong call here? I’m new to the forum so maybe I avoided a horrible first experience or missed out on a deal, either way.

How do I report to Rokslide? Contact us or is there a formal channel they review and determine?

Enjoy the read

I'm in a few Facebook groups for cars n motorcycles and those are littered with scammers. They always use zelle, venmo, cash apps because once the money is sent you have no way of getting it back. The only way to really be protected is to use PayPal goods and services. Some people don't want to because of the 3 percent fees but I don't mind paying that to be covered. If someone is pushy about not using that it's 99 percent of the time a scam or an old guy but either way not worth taking a chance on losing your money.

Looks like a scam. I think you should keep leading them on. Drag it out like your going to buy them and keep us entertained!

Total scam. It’s always “in the closet” or “in the garage”, broken language and they want Zelle or Venmo. Report to the moderators. I’m sick of f’ing losers trying to scam people. Total piece of 💩 human beings.

Don’t ever use Zelle, typically I’ll always opt for PayPal G&S unless the person on rokslide has a long standing reputation with 100% feedback and 10+ vouches. Even then I rarely choose to use F&F since there’s very little reason to assume the risk of being scammed

Rokslide has been a bad place for scams lately. I have a buddy that was scammed for over $400 last week on an item. Could be the same scammer.

Seeing it a lot lately.

I got hit up in the last three weeks on a WTB add here https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/wtb-kifaru-lost-parka-full-rg.377591/

by a non-member and another person claiming to be a member. No pevious sales history.

Wasn’t will to talk on the phone & would not take a picture of them wearing the item after it be lame clear that the pictures of the item they were selling were copied & pasted.

Would not give a legit person to vouch/vet for them either.

Be careful & wise out there lots of players looking to burn good people.

Be sharp & wise as a serpent in these times.

100% scam. Broken language, immediately moving communication off the forum to text message, requesting a payment method with no buyer protection, requesting a deposit…all red flags.

Welcome to the forum. The classifieds can be a great place to find deals but caution is always needed. Use extra caution with WTB posts, those tend to be scam magnets since you’re advertising exactly what you want.
