I wonder if/how many of the “Leupold is sh$t” crowd actually work for Leupold’s competitors. Using the hunting forums to harm Leupold’s reputation while generating more riflescope sales for themselves.

That would seem to account for the depth of their anti Leupold sentiment

I don't work in the optics or outdoor industry at all. I have missed a deer because my scope was broken before, been on a few awful tracking jobs and found out later the rifles zero was way off, etc.

At least in my case, finding those drop tests and reading other people's accounts showed a lot of parallels between my personal experiences and what the form cult was preaching. Since taking those considerations into account in my personal setup, I've seen results and had a eureka moment. That seems to be common with other people who are militant. I havent thrown my leupolds in the trash, but if I'm traveling across country with a ton of time and money invested and at risk of needing to take a 600 yard shot, im not bringing a leupold along for the ride. No need to take that risk in my opinion.

I have very close friends who love their leupolds and also know that you have to do some voodoo magic to make it adjust properly, expect it to be an inch or two off at the end of the season, etc. Some never are off, even after a year of four-wheeler and boat rides. Some are. Whatever makes them happy, I don't tell them why I have a big nasty telescope on my rifle unless they ask. I'm not throwing away my leupolds that have served me well. I'm also not going to use them on long range backpack hunting rifles.

Finally got to send one down range on an edible target with my recently face lifted rifle. 196 yards. Such garbage scopes. ;-)

I will say this, the detents are garbage, but I’m a point and shoot hunter 300 and less on deer. In my opinion you can’t beat the value for what they do. Light. Great glass. “Affordable”

If they improved their reliability, they would be on all of my rifles, light, great glass, affordable are all true, and most are very easy to get behind, but it’s kinda like my primary vehicle, reliability is the #1 feature it needs to have.

I just traded in a pickup like that, my favorite vehicle made, but it couldn’t be relied on so it gone

Put your money where your mouth is or quit asking.
If you are serious, then let me ask you a few (also serious) questions.

If the scope is amazing, why would you part with it? The link you sent me doesn't really work, in that it is for a one-time run of the scope. That could have been just a quick copy and paste on your part, or it really could be the scope model you have and that originally sold for close to $800 and is only available at one site (at least that I could find) and is now going for $1800. If it's the latter, maybe the scope is really great and we are all wrong and you are right.

But I'm not forking over $1200 for your scope. I do put my money where my mouth is, as I have contributed to the testing (and this back and forth has prompted me to do so again).

I'd send you an alternate scope (well, I'd send it through Ryan - assuming he will lower himself to get involved in this fiasco) to use while your scope is being tested. And since you mentioned your time and effort, I will also throw in $100 for the time it takes you to remove the scope and ship it.

I don't want to part with it, but you've told me several times "if it is that good, take it off your rifle and send it in for testing, which is an asinine offer. I've never once said I'd love to take it off and have some tests run. This is on you.

It wasn't a copy and paste, it was directly from Midway's site, and it is worth $1200 as I said, not some random and discretionary amount I came up with.

I'm not interested in any scope you may offer in return for my scope. If you are intent on bugging me about my scope to send in, we'll do it my way, not yours, as once again this was your stupid idea in the first place. If you're not going to play, count me out of playing your childish "test" games.

Wait now used Leupolds are worth what we paid for them?

Anybody want a VX5 3-15x56 for $1600? While it has never been tested I also have not missed an animal with it so it's probably one of the good ones.

I wasn't suggesting "copy and paste" in a negative way - just pointing out that you can't buy that scope at Midway with that link. The only place I found it online it's going for ~$1800, so if anything, you are undervaluing your scope.

You were getting a bargain then. If you are in fact declining my offer in response to your asinine idea, then quit bugging me about it.

I was proven to be $600 under the market, and "probably" doesn't cut it.

I know for a fact @Ryan Avery and @Formidilosus have offered to fly people out so they can prove, on video, they have one of the magical Leupold's that work (track correctly, maintain zero, pass the drop test, etc.). Would you be willing to do that?

The feeling's mutual. My scope would pass your "test" and you'd lie about it and say it didn't. See how that works?
I don't think it will. You can go drop it and I'll not call you a lier so long as their is some color in your description and it doesn't come across as your typical troll post.

I don't trust you to know if a scope holds or not, ignorance is not a lie. But, hey, seeing as you expected lies from others, I now have to wander if you might be less trustworthy than I expected.

What you think is irrelevant, all that matters is the truth. I've got zero desire to prove anything to you, and I don't recall you ever being present during load development, zero testing, or any single animal I've ever killed (and there's a buttload of them).

And what you post is irrelevant without any proof to back up your claims. Thats the key difference here. There are many Leupold's tested here as well as the many threads started about the problems they tend to have.

You tell us you have a Leupold that doesn't lose zero and tracks accurately but refuse to post any proof besides "trust me bro".
