Magnification 5x25 or 3x15?

Less glass required for lower mag ranges.
Imperfections matter more with more glass and thicker glass. You get less light transmission and more distortion as magnification goes up with any scope.

The cheaper the scope, the more the higher magnifications will increasing be annoying to unusable, especially when a bit of mirage kicks up.

Ugh I just read about mil adjustments and limits on some scopes. Do I need to worry about that with a .223 or 6.5 cm at 1000 yards? The math hurts my head.
Don’t over think it. Scopes are silly easy to get analysis paralysis. Especially with all of the internet hoopla.

I have both SWFA 3-15 and Vortex PST II 3-15 and 5-25. Either will get you to 1000 yards on either cartridge. My Vipers are dedicated range rifles. One is on an 18lb 6.5 CM. My final SWFA is actually on a 6.5 Grendel. But I have had them on .223 and 6.5 CM and taken all 3 cartridges to 1k.

Field rifles the 3-15 is great. Range rifles the 5-25 is my preference, even though I rarely shoot it over 15-18

I'm in the same boat. Wanting to get a SWFA 3-15, but kicking myself that I missed the Black Friday sale. Anyone know if they do sales throughout the year or just Christmas?

I use a Tract Toric 3x15x50 and a Zeiss Conquest 5x25x50 on two of my rifles and only use the 25x on the range, never hunting. The 15 is perfect for hunting and range. I do prefer 50mm for better low light performance. My Tract never loses zero even after I've dropped it multiple times. The fun rabbit hole of optics :ROFLMAO: Tract is a good option in the $500-$1500 range.

Do what Q said in post #12.

Save the money for ammo. Buy the 10x and learn how to use it.

I routinely shoot my .223 with SWFA 6x to 800 or so. It becomes hard to see and hear the impact at that distance, the optic is not the limiting factor.

I can not recommend the Vortex just based on the reticle. The newer reticles in the PST line suck in my opinion. Too busy and too fine to my eye. Might be good for PRS type matches but their Christmas tree reticles aren't my favorite. A scope in the 3x15 range is perfect for the ranges you'll be shooting at.
