Here’s the point, the op isn’t even talking personal reaction. The dawn soap break will down the oils and nullify any chance of reaction. No need for anything else.
We’re not talking about a person but his gear in the op question.
You won’t personally get it after exposure though if you wash quickly with dawn soap. You’d never get to get to needing any “soak”.
Identify it, wash it away. Quicker than reading this answer. Think it’s 1/2hr- 45 mins something like that you need to wash it off.
Lots of of old wives tales surround poison ivy, , be advised.
Bleach isn’t necessary boys. When you get motor oil on you, do you reach for bleach? We gotta rid the oil before it gets into our bloodstream. Once it does, jewelweed is the answer.

Old wives tales vs science. I’ll dive into in and come up with some scientific finding. Science isn’t hard if you do it correctly.

I literally live in a poison ivy jungle. I invite anyone to come use leaves as tp. Plentiful.

one thing I do know is a Naoh molecule(and the like, such as sodium hypochlorite) will remove oils quite well.

Either way. I’ll let y’all have rashes. I seldom get them. Even when chopping 3” diameter vines from pecan and cedar elms.

Thanks for the replies. I was mostly wondering about gear one didn't want to wash. I ended up washing some old sneakers recently and it probably hastened their end of usefulness.
Yes to Dawn. Tecnu is nice, too. May pack some alcohol wipes in the future.

I've been a land surveyor for 20 years. Our gear gets put in poison ivy every day. Clothes-wash with your normal detergent. anything not worn gets wiped with some sort of clorox type wipe usually the non bleach ones. That will take care of 90 percent of your issues unless you are cutting open vines or something. The vines will get you really no matter what you do unless you wash off immediately which is never really a option for us.
