Please help me choose a hunting arrow

I can't really speak to having a short 27" draw length having a 27.5" DL and all, but season before last after I separated by shoulder I shot a ~420 gr. arrow tipped with a poke on impact 3 blade out of a 62# bow and got full penetration on a moose. I've shot a $#!+ load of game with a similar arrow at 70# and a 2" mechanical and virtually all pass-through's. Don't let the internet get to you - the decision isn't that hard. I'd look at an Axis or FMJ in the .300"-.340" deflection and completely strip the notion of Grizzly Sticks from your mind.

Grizz Sticks are some of the worst arrows out there, hard to believe people even buy them.

The FMJ is a fine arrow, but I'd rather have a full carbon arrow. When I shot FMJs years ago I found that they took some serious target abuse and eventually bent a bit or the ends mushroomed. That will have an affect on performance.

I prefer a Gold Tip pro hunter or even an XT hunter.

why are they so bad? seems like lots of people have success with them. and it looks like an easy way to get a very heavy arrow. i know its not a trad thread, but are they better suited for a traditional application? like 25yds max?

Which ones are you referring to? The Grizz Sticks? If so, I am not sure where you see that many have success with them. I know a good number of bowhunters, both trad and modern equipment and not a single one of them shoots Grizz Sticks.

I also have a 27" draw. My arrows that I use for hunting weigh in at 420grains. Easton Injexion 330s at a 27" cut with a standard D6 insert and a 100gr head. Works phenomenal. I personally think an arrow around 425gr would be a better arrow out of that bow than the super heavy arrows you are considering. You don't need that kind of weight to kill and elk effectively.

This.

I shoot 26.5 at 75 with a BT Insanity. Using a regular Carbon Axis 340 with 50 Grain Brass HIT inserts and 100 Grain Magnus Black Hornet I'm at about 420 Grains and I sail through everything I shoot.

To me the Axis with Brass inserts is a no brainer hunting shaft, they just work and are very easy on the pocket book, which matters. More spare funds for permits and travel.

Ive gotten some first hand advice from some people here saying the grizz sticks are not that great. where ive heard about success: my grandfather father in law was a bowyer and he heard good things about them several years ago on a hunting trip to Africa. im not really considering them anymore though. apologies for hijacking the thread
