I have this and my heel is killing me. I'm trying to avoid a Dr and surgery so looking for any home remedies. Anyone had this before? What worked for you?
Go to the doc! I had it for two and a half years! Went from running 6-12 miles a day to nothing. It friggin sucks. Nip it in the butt now aggressively. The doc will wrap it for you, pay attention how he does it and ask questions then wrap it yourself if you can. Frozen water bottle is good too. Buy some plantar fasciitis inserts and stick them in your shoes. Like I said, AGGRESSIVE! Do anything and everything to stop it from turning into a long term deal.
I too am a runner (~6.5 miles/day before work) and have had it several times in the last 20 years. It definitely sucks and can last from a few months to over a year for me. I generally stretch my foot with a rolled towel or strap behind my toes before I get out of bed every morning. During the day at work (I'm lucky to be able to sit for my job) I'll roll my foot on a frozen water bottle and stretch my foot several times a day. I also will take ibuprofen for several days if the pain is too great, though I try to limit that. I haven't ever found a faster way than to just keep after it as Drhp says above. It's funny though, I can keep running when I have it as the pain just goes away after the first 1/2 mile or so and biking to work or for play is no problem either. Luckily (knock on wood) I've never had it in both feet at the same time. Check out a few running forums as that's where I've found the most help.
I had it also and it sucks haha! I have flat feet and what worked for me was to put a golf ball under my foot and push down and grind on that spot on my foot rolling around. It worked eventually and no doctor. Good luck buddy!
I had it a year ago and man, it sucks. I got it at all times during the hunting season and to make matte worse I got tripped up on a branch under the leaves and planted my foot to stop the fall and felt my foot pop. I should have just fell. I didnt go see the doc as it was going to take weeks to get in. I tried. Instead I did research and started to find out a lot of people I knew had it. Stretch your foot as much as you can. In the shower is great. I always felt better after the morning shower. Getting out of bed is the worst. Tip toe around like an idiot but manageable. I bought the inserts, it helped some. Mine went away after 7 months. I put on 30 pounds in that time. Now I am trying to loose that 30 and can sometimes feel the plantar coming back so I stretch and stretch. Get good footwear! My wife now has it too and she uses a brace every night on her ankle.
Some good advice here.
I also had it and it was terrible. Extremely painful.
It started in mid July 2012 and lasted a solid year and a half. I read all I could, and I tried everything.
My twin sis is a doctor and she told me what to do and I did it. I did not want a cortisone shot, some opt for it.
An orthotic/brace boot was extremely important. I wore one on both feet (even the unaffected foot) every night to bed. It was the biggest factor in my healing. Stranding on the edge of stairs and stretching works well too. Do it every day several times a day.
I hope this helps, it is not a pleasant ordeal. Those who have had it never forget it.
Most of all, use quality orthotic shoes/boots (even slippers like Spenco!) to avoid future problems.
Much like lonedave and Drhp, I was a regular runner until PF came along, but after about 13 months, mine seems to have finally passed and I've run for the second day in a row with no pain in the morning when I get out of bed, but I dread the thought of it coming back.
lomedave, it seems that you and I share the same zipcode, we should probably meet at Badger Mt for a hike or go for a run some time.
