Anyone handgun hunt? I had a bucket list item to shoot a deer with handgun. First was a doe from a ground blind at 25 yards with an inherited from my uncle colt trooper 357 with a handloaded 158 xtp.

2nd was a small buck at 15 yards with a Glock in 10mm shooting sig 180. Lungs where mush, no exit. Recovered on offside. Ran 40 yards and fell over.

No pics but shot a nice Maine 8pt from the crotch of an oak tree about 35 years ago. Knocked him over with my Super Blackhawk using 240gn XTPs.

I found the bullet in his hide. It's around here somewhere. Was about 89% intact and over 1/2" diameter. Thumped him good.

Would like to do that again some day but probably not.

I haven't in probably 5 years. Used a TC Contender in 7-30 Waters mostly as far back as 30 years. . Its almost cheating. Dropped a good many decent/good bucks at 100-150 yards.
Heart punched one at a dead run about 50 yards from a ladder stand. 120 gr SGK

I went through a handgun phase and killed does with my Contender in 7-30 waters and 309jdj. Killed a small 8 with my S&W 629 44mag a few years ago. Was still hunting and caught him slipping through the brush towards me. Shot him at about 30 yards.

I’ve been wanting to shoot one with my GP100. Maybe this coming fall. Killed my share of animals but never with a handgun or stick bow.

The last few years I've been putting my IHMSA handguns from the 1980's to work filling the freezer with doe meat. In 2024 I used my TC Contender with 10" .357 Maximum barrel and 158 Gr Hornady bullet. In 2025 I used my Dan Wesson .44 Mag with a 240 gr Hornady. This year I'm hoping to use my TC again but with my 14" 7mm IntrR barrel (similar to 7-30 Waters).

I like hunting with a 357 mag rifle, 16 inch barrel. Do get some bullets, not as pretty as OPs tho. The 158 xtp fps are going close to 2,000 fps and stay together pretty well.
