I have been deer hunting with 140 grain Bergers and so far they are terrific. I have a spike elk hunt coming up. Should I look at reloading some 150 grain bergers or stick with the 140s. Pros and Cons? I only shoot to about 350 yards but would like to eventually shoot as long as possible ethically with this round.

I have a Leupold CDS scope and would like to get committed to one bullet weight to get my turret engraved. Not sure which is the better choice.

I killed a cow this year with 140 gr Nosler Acubond and it did a great job. Weighed 98 grains at recovery, shot was about 90 yards, downhill shot, going through upper right shoulder blade, the off shoulder blade shattered and bullet stopped just under the skin. Dropped and died in tracks.
Bergers are a great choice too.

I would just stick with the 140's as your already shooting them sounds like. No need to change it all up at this point in the game. That 140 will kill just as good as a 150.

If you have a 1:8 twist barrel I would consider the Berger 170 or Matrix 175gr vld's. With a 1:10 twist the matrix 165 VLD should shoot fine.

If you want high weight woodleigh makes a 180gr bullet that midway USA sells. Another option is the Swift Scissoro 2 130gr.

if your only shooting 350yds right now, trajectory is not a big deal. why not a 150 or 160 nosler partition if you want a hard hitter? that said i see no problem with the VLD... 140 accubond would be my next choice. then maybe a 130 or 140 barnes / gmx / e-tip. my wife shot a mule deer buck with the 140 accubond 270 wsm last year at 386 yds, broke the near shoulder and blew out the other side ribs. great performance

Can't say about the bergers but I'm shooting 140gr Accubond out of my 270WSM and have killed numerous elk with it from 100-360 yards and a Shiras moose at 176 yards. The elk all dropped right in there tracks and the moose just stood there soaking up 3 rounds. He was dead after the first one but wanted to anchor him.

That being said if you were wanting to go from a 130gr to 160gr or 170gr Matrix and had the right barrel I'd say hell ya! but going from a 140gr to 150gr isn't enough weight to make a difference in my opinion...Within 400 yards I wouldn't worry about changing up the 140's if you've got a tried and true load developed.

Matrix just sold out and no longer will their .277 bullets be made. So that option is gone.
