Kinda both. We do it "just because" but also for the sake of scenery that would otherwise take a full day or more of hiking to get to. Another factor is that its 95 or 100 in the valley...so what's to loose by DRIVING up a few thousand feet of elevation?

One of my attempts to get a picture of a cliff from the bottom... and only a few yards away. I haven't figured out a good way to show height without using man-made objects for scale. I'd estimate this cliff to be around 200 feet.
