yesterday's snowhoe outing

@mtwarden can I ask what snowshoes you use? Sans trees, I walk similar terrain and snowdepths for my bird hunts.

We don't have a culture for snowshoes, but there's too many days not good for skis and too much for boots. The snowshoes I've been able to obtain are lightweight and good, but they are a little "flippy" or soft in deeper snow (I'm about 220 lbs with backpack). I'm basically clueless & blind when I order online, but at least I've managed to stay away from thee heavy trail ones.

the ones pictured are MSR Evo Ascents- 22" long (they have optional 4" tails available)

I also have a pair of MSR Lightnings that are 30" (with optional 4" tails)

most of the MSR shoes have very aggressive traction (crampons and under the deck) which are a must for mountain travel; they also have a good binding system

if you're 220 lbs and dealing with deeper, soft snow- I'd recommend 30" shoes and grab tails if they are available

look at the MSR Lightning Explores- good grip, good bindings, lightweight and available in 30" length (with optional 4" tails)

I'm not familiar with other manufacturers' lines, so there could be other suitable shoes I'm not aware of
