Spent last week in Chile / Argentina. Wish I could report I was hunting for Red Stag and Javelina, but this was purely a social visit. My father in law has spent his winters down there since retirement, and my wife finally made me spend a week of my vacation on a non-hunting activity. Ate and drank more than I ever have on vacation, saw some beautiful country, and hopefully laid some ground work to go back again some time and do some type of hunting.
I did not take a lot of pictures, and still working on getting them off my camera, but these are a few for the moment. This was on our trip back across the border from Argentina to Chile in the Hua Hum pass. Stopped at Puerto Pirihueico waiting for the ferry we explored around the lake a bit and came upon the ruins of what appears to be an old bath house. From what I could tell the wooden structure had burned long ago and they never bothered to rebuild. There were old cast iron bath tubs littered around the area.
Made a trip down to where I like to shed hunt to see if anything was moving around. I saw this guy up close and personal and it got me excited for the coming months!!
Coolest thing I saw on our trip to South America. This was at a huge private ranch just off the main road on the Chile / Argentine boarder. It was a working horse ranch, and we pulled in just so my wife could check out the horses. Turns out the family owns a polo team that is based in BA, but they sometimes train out at this ranch. Had like 30 horses running around, but I was interested in the Red Stag hanging everywhere. The owners were taking a siesta, but the gauchos working had no problem with us poking around to check out the horses and stuff around the barns. What a different experience. A bunch of foreigners rolling up to a private ranch in the states is likely to get you shot, but the people there were very friendly. Due to language barrier, I wasn't able to learn much about the Red Stag but it is clear they must be living free range up in the mountains on this property. These did not appear to be high fence trophies. My father in law is tasked with bringing gifts the next time he passes through so we can make friends and visit again someday.
Finally made it through all the pages. There is some really great pics. I'll donate mine. was taken last year when my wife and I were on vacation. Taken in the Yellowstone National Park from my phone
