Been using a 338 win mag since high skool. Shooting a Nosler 210 partition at just over 3100fps. Between 3/4 and 1 moa average groups.
What are your favorite loads?

Not the most exciting, but I’ve been having success with 225 gr accubonds and 70gr of IMR4831. Just shy of 2800fps.

That sounds like a screamer. Do share!
I’m just waiting on some components to load 205g Hammers. I was looking to get 3000fps. I’m encouraged now.

Back in the early 80's my dad found a book, Guns, Loads & Hunting Tips by Bob Hagel. The author was a 338 caliber fan and dad had just bought a 338 win mag for elk hunting. His load was 77grains of imr4350. We found that in our 338's 75.5 grains was the most accurate and averaged 3120fps. Have been using for over 35 years now, my go to rifle. Plus, 2 trips to South Africa.

Tilling up the dirt on this older thread, when loading that much powder into the winny case. Did you notice any over pressure signs ? Also assuming you were using 210gr bullets ?

Slight flattening of primer. Dads was a Remington 700 Classic and mine a full blown kustom built on pre 64 Winchester model 70. Using a 16” drop tube and nosler 210 partitions, magnum primer, MOA was doable as long as i did my part.

210 ttsx @ 2825 using RL17 out of a 20” barrel Tikka. Very accurate but I am almost out of RL17 and I haven’t seen any in over a year.

Have been able to restock my IMR powders here in Colorado. Reloader products very scarce here too. Give the IMR 4350 a try, if you find it. Not having temperature fluctuations either, very accurate year round.

225 CE D62 with a stout charge of R17.
2950 fps out of my 24” barrel. Ladder up to 3025, but shot .75MOA consistently at 2950. Some times smaller groups, but never more than .75.

How much variance do you get with temperature changes? You know spring/fall versus summer versus winter. Not only accuracy, but group size.

Don’t forget to make a drop tube. Minimum of 16” max of 36”. My short one is hand held, long one in stand. It allows the powder to fill case denser, less compaction issues when seating bullet.

Good info to know because with my nosler cases, the powder isnt close to the neck with 73gr. With my federal and winchester cases, it's to the neck. Also, have you ever tried h4831 with the 250gr partition ?

Never messed around with 250gr. The 210gr does everything i want and a bit faster. To date i have not lost anything i shot at with 210gr. Plus 90% of animals i have killed are less than 200 yards. Get more out of being archery/muzzle loader range.
