My wife hated the BGE for quick cooks like chicken or burgers...we're gonna have to add a pellet grill to the patio.

Shoot me if you have something you were considering letting go. Doing research now and hate the Yoder price tag, but do like the buy once cry once, I've seen a few traegers in pretty rough shape

Pellet grills still need a good bit of time to warm up. I added a side burner with grill box to my Camp Chef WiFi 36. Just something to consider in your search.

I'll check them out @sndmn11 thanks

My hangup with propone is their construction, they seem to last me about 3 years and then they end up in the trash. If I replace midsized propane grill every 3 years, I just bought self a Yoder.

True they take a while, but faster and more hands off still than a BGE. Standing out on the deck in the single digits lighting lump coal just to cook a chicken breast for the kiddo isn't her favorite pasttime. The wireless capabilities of a nice pellet are appealing

I think they have some Yoder quality propane ones.

We use our Yoder to grill all the time, takes the same to heat up as a propane guy from HD/Walmart.

I wanted a Smoker/propane grill combo.
I ended up taking a chance on the
KC Combo from Pitboss.
I was pleasantly surprised.

The Bluetooth didn’t work (as expected per reviews), but Pitboss quickly sent out a replacement.
I unfortunately didn’t have a chance to install the new control panel before some fierce wind got the unit rolling (sloped flat roof and forgot to lock the casters) and the grill launched off my deck.

So, back to square one…and I’m about 95% sure I’m going to buy another KC Combo even though prices went up $100 in a year.
I can salvage parts of my smashed one too, lol.

Pit Boss all the way....

My pellet grill history:

- Traeger: Good but over-hyped and priced in my opinion.
- Pit Boss: Loved it, but left it on the East Coast when I moved..
- Oklahoma Joes: Auger is garbage. I did love the sear surface size. Gave it away on Facebook.
- Pit Boss: Went back to the Pit Boss. Zero issues. I run the Meatstick probes and PB Competition pellets, unless I'm smoking fish.

Pit Boss smokers are super simple, have BT probes if you don't want to buy aftermarket, and I've had zero issues. Your mileage may vary....but I'd say you can't go wrong. Clean it properly after a long smoke and you'll run that thing into the ground. Price-point can't be beat.

How about adding the egg genius to the the BGE. I have owned several Traegers and now a medium BGE. I added the egg genius and ii simplifies it like a traeger. Temp is controlled and I can monitor cook and meat temp remotely. There are several other brands out there as well. Cheaper option than another grill

I have a BBQ guru...that does nothing for time spent outside holding the torch to the coals or heat up time once its started. It shouldn't take 30+ to heat up and cook a chicken breast.

Auto temp controllers are nice for smoking, but useless for grilling.

I gotta ask. Did you like the BGE? Can’t imagine that any pellet grill would be significantly quicker other than a gas grill. Agreeably, folks either love or hate their BGE most of the time, but hard to believe anything else is simpler.

I love the egg. Don't care if a pellet takes some time to heat, as long as I dont have to stand there while it does. Lighting the BGE is a pain in the ass. Although most pellets I've cooked over are far quicker to temp than a BGE.

I highly recommend Green Mountain grills. I have one of their small grills which has wifi, all the bells and whistles, works great and wont break the bank.

It takes me 3min or less to get my BGE up and running. Get the coals started with torch, leave the bottom wide open and the top either OFF or all the way open (spinner slid all the way off). Come back ~10min later and its ripping- more than enough for a chicken breast.

I understand what you're saying about it being more involved than a pellet grill, but its much fast and you don't have to get a pellet grill.

What size BGE are you running? You could consider getting a mini max BGE and use it exclusively for chicken- it should start fast(er) than a larger size and be easy to deal with. I mean if you're considering a yoder for chicken breast alone, why not a smaller BGE?

Also- what charcoal are you running?

fellas...make it stop, it was a "want to buy" add, not a debate on what smoker you like.

Please stop. I know a used Yoder 640 will he over $2k still. Better than $3k no? Who said anything about a traeger or the <$500 traeger price point?

I'd reference you to the classified rules about not commenting on ads, but I'd imagine you'd just comment unsolicited on that thread too.

All in good fun, of course.
