Bedding doesn’t add much weight at all. Most mine are mixed at 500 grains and then you have the squeeze out. That’s with full length bedding them. I’d never bed a stock the way Peak 44 has suggested on their webpage. That video makes me cringe
just watched the video, I cringed a bit as well. I'm pretty surprised the stock and barrel didn't get glued together. And oiling/greasing your actions screws is a great idea!

The palm swell is no larger than the optional grip on a factory tikka.

I loved the larger palm swell when shooting from a bench or prone. Absolutely hated it when shooting off hand.

Have you shot a Peak 44 of just going off of numbers? It’s not a seekins stock with their crazy baseball palm swell. It feels pretty normal in my hand and I have zero issues with offhand shots.

I have not shot the peak yet. But several others that have a very similar palm swell. So I guess this isn't against peak, per say, but I seem to have an issue with larger palm swells. So this is something that I have to take into consideration when buying after market stocks. Again, prone/bench I can shoot lights out with the bigger palm swell. I would love to try a peak44 before purchasing. I'm also very aware that this is a me problem, but have also ran into a few that share it.

Please elaborate…what about their bedding process isn’t correct?

Thanks Gents!

I'll have to measure the palm swell on my Kimber and compare- that's a measurement I would have not thought to check.

My main question was accurate weight as that seems to be one of the biggest let downs with a lot of aftermarket stocks. I'd be just a little disappointed spending big money and have the stock come in over what's advertised.

For Tikka guys- they (Peak 44) show a Lite contour and a Compact contour- I was under the impression that had the same contour, just 22.4/24" vs the 20" length for the Compact????

I think they meant to list
Lite
CTR
Sendero
The lite and compact are the same contour

I’m guessing what the call “compact” is actually CTR which stand for compact tactical rifle, a heavier profile.

Lol on baby Dick palm swells being difficult to shoot offhand.

LOL, forgot the internet was full of Koolaide drinkers that have to have all the popular shit. 3 hand surgeries later and yes the baby DIck palm swells are difficult offhand, but hey, it's not cool to be honest and have a different opinion that the all the cool crowd.

That makes sense. I was pretty sure the other compact was simply a shorter barrel (and shorter stock) :)

Offhand shots are a real consideration for most hunters. My first antelope this year was a drop to the knee, offhand shot at 170 yards. It happens.

As much as some people like to think you can just get prone for everything.

I apologize for starting the negative tone @jrock_jeep with the LOL. That's my bad.

The whole idea of a palm swell and vertical grip is to put one's hand in a natural neutral position so it is less strained and can make good trigger pulls. Has nothing to do with being cool or popular or prone or tactical. Biathletes don't shoot rifles like this because the internet says palm swells and vertical grips are cool. Rinse and repeat for other offhand matches like the NRA positional stuff, silhouette.

I absolutely believe that an open grip feels better to some people when they shoulder a rifle because that is how it has felt forever and maybe the movement of lifting the rifle to shoulder feels better with an open grip. I just call bs on the idea that having a very open or narrow grip is better for offhand shooting especially for anything that happens after the rifle is shouldered.

Edit to add: i think the blackcomb is a nice stock, especially for folks who don't want the bigger vertical grips.

On the issue of palm swells for off hand shooting. First, the Blacktooth isn’t all that big and the trigger reach is relatively short so that even people with smallish hands can use it well. I don’t think most people who try this stock will have a problem with it, and I find it to be one of the better non-vertical grips out there. Second, for offhand shots, I personally find the gripping the rifle hard with the rear hand doesn’t promote great trigger control and accuracy so even a bigger palm swell wouldn’t bother me. YMMV.

On bedding, I didn’t watch the video or use the kit they sell. I bedded the recoil lug with the gray Devcon and it’s worked just fine. Mine is torqued to the spec which is 55#. It’s nicely free floated and I’ve had no issues with it.

Totally agree with all of this. I really think this stock is overlooked by many.
The comb is high enough. It's mildly negative where your head rests. And it doesn't look weird. LOL.

As much as I’m curious to try one of the “shark-fin” Rokstocks, I really like the negative comb on the Blacktooths. I find them really comfortable and controllable. I was using low Warne Mtn Tech rings on Burris two-piece Pic mounts. The comb height was way better than most factory stocks.

The bastion and blacktooth are very easily shot off hand
The blacktooth points like a youth shotgun- take that for what you like.

In my opinion all of it. Why would you not full length bed the stock to ensure you have 100% stress free fit?
I haven’t bedded a rifle yet so i have yet to go down down that rabbit hole. Any other things you think are important? I have a blacktooth en-route sometime here in the next few weeks so will be learning here pretty quick and digging into the whole process. I am building this one from the ground up on my own and am hoping to not involve a smith. I don’t have a smith in my town and am tired of sending rifles off for months. Built a few chassis that have turned out great and are shooting incredibly but this will be my first diy in a traditional stock bedded.
