Paypal Rules of Engagement?

I just sold something on Rokslide for $75 tyd. I was surprised by getting a payment of $72.52, which would be $75 minus the PayPal fee for non-friends and family. I always assumed that the buyer covered that fee and the seller received the asking price. Am I wrong to assume that? Should I specify in my ad that the buyer covers the fee? I’m not bent out of shape about a couple of bucks, but I would be if this was a more expensive item. What is the ROE on this, and is it codified somewhere on Rokslide?

Its different for everybody and there isn't a hard set rule - just include in your ad that the buyer pays the PP fee or they send it F&F.

I always price the fee into my asking price. IMO, if it's not negotiated prior to the sale, seller pays the fee.

I also specify in my classified post, so there are set expectations. That way no one feels misled.

Rokslide doesn't have a stance on who pays the fee. Up to the seller and buyer to agree on.

Yeah, if it’s not mentioned in the sale post, seller pays the 3% in my experience. F&F is a bad idea, good way to get ripped off. If everyone quit using friends and family, the scammers would get tired of trying eventually.

Work it into your asking price. Its the cost of doing business and the seller pays it.

Friends and family offers no protection if the deal goes wrong.

Lots of sellers state f&f or buyer adds 3%. But pretty sure that actually goes against PayPal policy and can get you kicked from the platform for making buyer pay fees. Best practice is if you want fees just build into asking price. I’ve been buyer on all different ways but it only takes one angry guy to report you tho

Personally I’m happy if they do but if they don’t oh well, if we are going to take PayPal as a payment method we should price accordingly as we do when including shipping. Now for a more expensive item I’ll make it clear the paid to me price doesn’t include any fees for them paying in a convenient fashion.

I'm so opposed to F&F for Rokslide that I don't even offer it. My ads say "$X TYD, includes paypal fees."

If I am the seller I either state to add the fee or I build it into my price.

If I am the buyer It depends. If I am buying and negotiate a price I add the fee so I pay the agreed price to the seller. If I just go straight to "I'll take it" I add the fee if stated in the add but don't add the fee if its not specified.

I'm a new member here but have been buying and selling high end items for years on the web . Onething to keep in mind is that PayPal is anti 2A and will provide zero protection for purchases of firearms and related items .

Do your homework, if you get scammed it's your fault . Not PayPal or anyone else.

My daughter was ripped off on an item when the people used F&F. After they got the item, they filed a charge back with their credit card company and she lost of course. I just build the fee into my price and since that happened, have actually refunded guys money and made them send it so I have to pay the fee. Very rarely do you lose claims if you can prove the item was delivered if not F&F.

Some buyers will ask to do the 3% fee even if you’re ok with F&F.

I factor the 3% fees and tell buyers to NOT use F&F. As stated, I figure it is the cost of doing business and using PP to collect my payment.

I've sold my fair share of stuff and I always price my items "TYD" and factor the cost of fees and shipping into the price.
I don't know why, but for some reason asking for fees turns away some buyers.
