I have taken a liking to paracord slings the last few years. My only complaint is that the 550 cord is very slippery on my shoulder while wearing a wool coat. That's pretty much all I wear here in PA from bear through deer season. Its really bad on a tightly woven wool like my Filson or Woolrich. The last couple ive got, ive sprayed the contact area with fake Flex Seal. Its helped some. Just got another sling, does one have any better ideas that I could try?
Thanks

Could you get a length of shrink tubing and use that as a contact patch?
Someone on another forum suggested rubber bands. It might try that if the real Flex Seal i got doesn't work. The other stuff I had was some off brand stuff from the camper store.

Try an old bike tire tube.
Cut it to length for the contact point.
Or, you could try cutting it in strips, and weaving it in the cord on the side that goes on your shoulder. Ive never tried it, but it might help, and not ruin the looks of the sling on the outside.
I’ve made a few and use one on my 308, and I really like mine as well.
But I have not tried the bike tube however, that was just a thought.

Probably close to 30 years ago I got a couple of those vero vellini stretch slings and fell in love with the idea. I've also had Butler Creek stretchy slings and right now my kids' rifle wears some generic off brand from Amazon. Still works great. Light, doesn't absorb water, carries very comfortably. They aren't the greatest for shooting support, but they sure carry nice.

But if I wanted to make paracord work for you, I'd grab a can of spray-in bedliner and spray multiple coats on the surface that rides on your shoulder.

That idea has been tossed around. Wondering about cracking and peeling with use. Wonder that about the flex seal also. I even thought of dabs of hot melt glue.

I’m a big fan of 550 cord for a sling and like to have something on the daypack’s shoulder strap to hook it over. A heavy duty button can be hand sewn on, a coin shaped piece of leather can be riveted on with a copper rivet, or if the load lifter isn’t at a steep angle the plastic adjuster can be hooked over. It just seems natural now.

I would consider:

sewing on the rubberized nylon that we use for our slings

Doing a braid for a portion and include a heavy rubber band as one of the pieces

Get a smaller cord, and do some small “whipping” every inch or two for the contact points, kinda like serving on a bowstring. Try different types and thickness.

I think that any stuff you try to stick on will eventually fail. Use some alcohol to clean the cord first?
